Take a quick read and help spread the word. It’s okay if the election judges initial your ballot. In fact, it’s Missouri law.
Greene County Clerk Shane Schoeller is reassuring voters that a social media rumor claiming ballots will be disqualified if election workers write on them is false.
“Missouri law requires election judges to initial ballots before issuing them to voters,” said Schoeller. “ Their initials do not invalidate a ballot. In fact, they are an important part of election integrity standards that helps ensure ballots are properly issued and accounted for.”
Under Missouri election law, election judges are required to place their initials on ballots as part of the official voting process. Voters who notice these initials on their ballots should not be alarmed and do not need to request a replacement ballot.
