In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, DoIT leadership, recruitment and employees attended the 38th annual IAHSE - Illinois Association of Hispanic State Employees conference. This year's theme: Latinx in Government: Apoyando Nuestra Comunidad!

"The IAHSE Conference continues to be an important space for advocacy, representation, and connection across Illinois state government. Creating pathways for more Latinos to pursue careers in public service is about more than recruitment. It is about building a workforce that reflects the communities we serve and creating opportunities for Latino employees to grow and lead. Having participated in this conference for several years, I always value the opportunity to connect with colleagues across agencies who share that commitment," says DoIT Chief of Supplier Diversity, Aliceber Rivera-Alfaro.

As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to a close, we're committed to celebrating diversity, embracing inclusion and uplifting every voice all year long.

Today (Oct. 8), the Accessibility Committee for Employees with Disabilities (ACED) recognized the Illinois Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) Accessibility team as the Outstanding Agency of the Year at the 2026 ACED Awards. 🏆🌟

Our DoIT Accessibility team continues on its mission to produce training, track compliance, and spread awareness of the Illinois Information Technology Accessibility Act (IITAA), which improves digital access for people with disabilities. Congratulations, team!

Our Secretary and Chief Information Officer, Brandon Ragle joined other State CIOs at the National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) annual awards in San Diego last week. Illinois accepted an award that recognizes innovation and excellence in Information & Communications Technology.

Secretary Brandon Ragle spoke briefly with Government Technology about what's next for Illinois and the states IT priorities, "Data is the foundation of everything. And so, we've really been focused on a lot on data management."

Investments over the past couple of years have helped advance Illinois’ data maturity. Central IT is working with agencies to understand data that’s been locked up in legacy formats for years.

“Cybersecurity awareness matters most when it becomes action,” said Jason Bowen, Statewide Chief Information Security Officer. “When people secure their accounts, keep devices updated, question unexpected requests, and report concerns quickly, they create layers of protection that make are entire State stronger."

Simple actions like using strong passwords, enabling multi-factor authentication, and being cautious with unexpected emails, goes a long way in protecting data. Thanks for doing your part to keep our digital environment safe! 🛡️

The National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) has named DoIT as the recipient of the 2026 NASCIO State IT Recognition Award in the Information & Communications Technology category for its project, “The Power of Touch: Modernizing Safety for Blind Students.” 🎉

“This award reflects the dedication of our teams and partners to deliver technology that directly improves safety for students,” said Illinois Department of Innovation & Technology Secretary and State CIO Brandon Ragle. “We’re honored by NASCIO’s recognition and proud that this project is making a measurable difference at the Illinois School for the Blind.”
