Good news! Even with the Muckross Falls Bridge temporarily out of order you can still see the waterfall up close like before. Just on the other side of the brook!

When you follow the Waterfall Trail down from the main road you'll eventually reach the brook with its beautiful stone walls. This is where the bridge used to cross. (Photo 1)

Look to your right and you'll see a path heading along this side of the brook right to the Waterfall! (photo 2) Watch your step! The little path is mostly clear and stable, but changing conditions, wet leaves, hidden roots and fallen branches can cause a trip hazard.

You'll approach the falls for a lovely view (photo 3) you can walk between the tree to get up close and personal as usual (photo 4).

Enjoy! And thank you for visiting Muckross State Park!

Note: State park maintenance team removed the bridge due to safety issues caused by wood rot.

How do you get to Muckross State Park anyway?!

We get this question a lot! It’s easy to miss if you don’t know where you’re going.

Muckross is tucked just outside of downtown Springfield, Vermont, along the Black River. There’s no big entrance sign off VT-11 (yet), so keep an eye out as you’re driving for Paddock Road and a beautiful steel bridge, you'll need to cross that.

You’ll turn off VT-11 onto Paddock Road and cross the historic Gould’s Mill Bridge. Just after the bridge, look for a small green Vermont State Parks sign in someone’s front yard. Turn left onto that dirt road, putting the house to your right as you turn. From there, follow the dirt road as it climbs gently uphill between two classic Vermont stone walls.

Once you pop out at the top, you’ll arrive in a small dirt parking area rather than a traditional park entrance, and that’s Muckross!

🪧Note: Please drive respectfully and don't park off Perly Gordon or Paddock Roads, these are small residential roads with children out and about often. Let's make sure to keep the neighborhood roads safe for all. If the Muckross lot is full please park down at Eureka Schoolhouse or a mile and a half away at the Toonerville Trailhead.🪧

From there, the road continues but you must follow it on foot, it will lead you further into the park, past old carriage roads, forested hillsides that wind down to a lovely waterfall, a 10 acre pond, and the historic estate grounds.

Still not sure if you’re in the right spot? Drop a comment or send us a message. We’re happy to help you find your way.

Part of the magic of Muckross is that it feels a little hidden… a little feral… and at sunrise, maybe even a little eerie. But it's perfectly safe, and once you find it, you’ll know why it’s worth the search.

🚧 9/3/2026 Trail Update – Muckross State Park 🚧

The footbridge along the route to Muckross Falls is currently closed.

Park staff identified significant wood rot, and after a section gave way underfoot yesterday, the decision was made to close the bridge immediately for safety. The wood has become soft and unstable, making it unsafe for public use.

The Park's maintenance team is already working on plans to replace the bridge, and we’ll share updates as we get them.

The good news—water levels at the falls are very low right now, so you’re not missing much in terms of flow at the moment 😉

Thank you for your understanding and for helping us keep the park safe for everyone!

We had some folks asking what the area looks like for potential yoga classes in Muckross State Park
Here are some views for you.

It's about a .5mi walk to reach this beautiful green grassy courtyard from the main Parking lot. Port-o-potties are available Spring/Summer/Fall

This would be a great space to hold yoga, meditation for even painting classes at! Especially with Fall 🍂 right around the corner.

One could easily email [email protected] to set that up for FREE

Muckross State Park is always free thanks to the generosity and forethought of Edgar May.

Friendly neighborhood Millipede at Muckross this morning.

Watch how it walks this is called the "galley worm" glide: They move their legs in perfectly synchronized, wave-like patterns resembling oars on an ancient galley ship.

Despite their name, Vermont species of Millipede actually have between 34 and 400 legs. But who's counting?

If you spot a sweet millipede please don't harm them, they're hard workers and they're great for the garden!

They are harmless, gentle detritivores* that spend their lives eating decaying leaves and wood, enriching the soils we plant and garden in!

*Detritivores are organisms that get energy and nutrients by eating detritus, which means decomposing organic matter like dead plants, dead animals or animal waste.
