HOMECOMING SPIRIT IS ROARING ON THE NORTHSIDE! 🦁

It’s Homecoming Week for the Lanphier Lions, and the excitement was in full force this afternoon as students and staff rallied together to cheer on the Lions before tonight’s matchup against the Vandalia Vandals at Memorial Stadium!

The pep rally kicked off with the school song, followed by an incredible performance from the drumline that had the crowd clapping along! The cheer and poms teams brought the energy, and the dance floor got even more exciting when some football players showed off their moves and faculty members got groovy!

The laughs kept coming during a crowd-favorite pizza box game that came down to a final showdown between Principal Pickett and a faculty member! The afternoon was filled with school pride, big smiles, and memories that make Homecoming Week so special.

And, of course, no Lanphier Homecoming would be complete without the announcement of the Homecoming King and Queen! In a beloved Lanphier tradition, the queen unveiled her rose while the king opened his bag to reveal his sash.

The celebration continues Saturday at the Homecoming Dance, but tonight, it’s time to bring that Lion pride to Memorial Stadium at 7 pm!!🏈🏈

LET’S GO, LIONS!

Careers and the future were on the minds of Lincoln Magnet School eighth graders today as two former Leopards returned to help students explore the world of construction, design and project management!

Madisyn, marketing coordinator, and Sadie, a project engineer with O'Shea Builders , shared their career experiences and led students through a hands-on activity that put their creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills to work.

Students formed teams, selected roles such as estimator, project manager and architect, and worked together to design a gym complex while considering budgets, planning and the many details that go into bringing a project to life.

The room quickly filled with conversation, collaboration and excitement as students turned their ideas into plans!

This kind of hands-on learning helps students connect classroom skills to real-world careers, think critically, make decisions and discover new possibilities for their futures.

And there's something extra special about learning from former students who once walked the same hallways.🐾

🎃 Creativity is glowing at District 186!

Every fall, the Jack O Lantern Spectacular - Springfield, IL at Washington Park brings hundreds of creatively carved pumpkins to life, transforming the park into a seasonal display filled with imagination, artistry and Halloween magic. This community favorite takes plenty of teamwork to make it happen, and each year, some of our incredible District 186 students and staff help bring the magic to life!

Here are a few sneak peeks at the masterpieces some of our 186 family helped create this year! 👀

Franklin Middle School: Mr. Pochynok's classes teamed up in groups to brainstorm, strategize designs, clean out pumpkins and bring their ideas to life. Their hard work resulted in nearly 100 carved pumpkins!

Lincoln Magnet School: Seventh graders explored their creative sides by designing and carving unique pieces while learning about positive and negative space. Their work shows how art, problem-solving and imagination go hand in hand.

Dubois Elementary: Our FACE team joined Mrs. Drennan's class for a pumpkin-carving adventure filled with smiles, thoughtful planning and creativity. Together, they turned ordinary pumpkins into something magical!

From brainstorming and planning to carving and creating, our students and staff showed what can happen when creativity and collaboration come together.

Way to go, 186! We can't wait for everyone to see these incredible creations at the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular! 🎃

The best way to start the morning? With curious minds, happy hearts and plenty of opportunities to learn through play!

This morning, our Early Learning Center students were busy building skills, exploring new ideas and growing together. In one classroom, an interactive read-aloud brought a story about a bus ride to life! Students listened for their characters, brought them up when they appeared in the story and helped the adventure unfold. When young learners get to participate in a story, they do more than listen. They practice paying attention, following along, building language skills and making connections that help learning stick!

In another classroom, students explored Mouse Paint with their own little copies of the book, saying color names aloud and practicing pronunciation as they followed along. Every new word, shared answer and turn of the page was another opportunity to grow. 🖍️

And before heading outside, students took a moment to sing a song about calming their bodies and getting focused. These little routines help young learners practice recognizing their feelings, managing their energy and getting ready for what's next.

Then it was time for some playground fun! From swings and hula hoops to the rock station and imaginative play, students had room to explore, connect with friends and build important social skills. And our amazing teachers and staff were right there alongside them, pushing swings, joining pretend-play adventures and helping little learners discover new things.

At the ELC, learning happens everywhere: in the classroom, on the playground, through a shared story and in every little moment in between. Here, we play together, learn together and grow together!
