On October 9, 2026, at approximately 7:25 p.m., the Springfield Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle that had just been stolen from the 200 block of Springfield Avenue.
The victim provided dispatchers with a description of the suspect, including his nickname, a description of the stolen vehicle, and a possible location where the suspect may have been headed.
Officers immediately began searching the area and quickly located a man matching the suspect's description near the location provided by the victim. The man was identified as 59-year-old Steve Corzel Corbin.
Corbin was detained while officers continued their investigation, and during a show-up identification, the victim identified Corbin as the person who had stolen his vehicle. A subsequent search of Corbin revealed property taken from inside the vehicle, and officers located the stolen vehicle a short distance away.
Investigators learned the victim had just returned home after purchasing a generator and other supplies in preparation for the severe weather impacting our area. As the victim was unloading those supplies, Corbin entered the vehicle, located a spare set of keys, and drove away.
“We were out working in some pretty rough weather, but that didn’t change our commitment to protecting this community,” said Chief Roberts. “Within 30 minutes of receiving the call, our team had located the suspect, recovered the victim's vehicle, and made an arrest. That's a great example of our officers and dispatchers working together to get the job done. I'm proud of their work, especially under these conditions.”
Corbin was subsequently charged with Burglary of a Conveyance During a State of Emergency, Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle, and two counts of Petit Theft. Corbin was transported to the Bay County Jail to await first appearance.
