🎉 Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month🎉

Today was a beautiful celebration of our Hispanic culture, traditions, and history during our Student Speak Out and Springfield School Committee meeting! ❤️💛💙
The halls of City Hall came alive with the sounds of salsa music, authentic musical instruments, delicious traditional Puerto Rican sweet pastries and snacks. It was a special opportunity to celebrate the richness of our heritage right here in the heart of our city!
A heartfelt THANK YOU to all my fellow School Committee members Ayanna Crawford, Denise Hurst , LaTonia Monroe Naylor, Barbara Gresham, and our Superintendent, Dr. Sonia Dinnall, for joining in this meaningful celebration. A special thank-you to School Committee member Rosa M. Valentin for generously donating the authentic sweet pastries, snacks, and instruments helping make today’s celebration even more special. Your generosity and thoughtfulness are truly appreciated!
When we celebrate one another, we build understanding, strengthen our schools, and create a community where every student and family feels seen, respected, and included.
¡Que viva nuestra cultura! ¡Que viva nuestra historia! ¡Y que viva la hermosa comunidad de Springfield! 🇵🇷❤️🎶

☕️ Grateful for the Opportunity to Serve Springfield!

I’m truly thankful and happy to have had the opportunity to sit down with Mike Dobbs for an interview alongside my fellow School Committee members, Rosa M. Valentin and Ayanna Crawford

As we approached one year serving together on the Springfield School Committee, it was a great opportunity to reflect on our first year—the experiences we’ve shared, the challenges we’ve faced, the lessons we’ve learned, and, most importantly, the work we continue to do for the students, families, educators, and communities of Springfield.

Serving on the School Committee is both an honor and a privilege. Every day reminds me why it is so important to listen, show up, work together, and make sure every voice in our city is heard.

I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished during our first year, and I’m even more excited about what the next year will bring. There is still so much work to do, and I’m ready to continue doing it alongside my colleagues and our incredible Springfield community.

Thank you, Springfield, for trusting us and giving us the opportunity to serve. We are here for you, we are listening, and we will continue working for our children and our city. ❤️💙

📚💙 SPRINGFIELD, THIS IS FOR YOU! 💙📚

Our schools are stronger when our community is engaged, informed, and involved. I want to encourage parents, families, students, educators, and community members to take advantage of the new Springfield Public Schools “Super Saturdays & Sundays” open forums.

These gatherings are an opportunity to ask questions, share concerns, bring ideas to the table, and help shape the future of our school district. Your voice matters, and showing up is one of the most important ways we can stay connected to our schools.

📅 FIRST SESSION: TOMORROW — Saturday, September 26
⏰ 11:00 AM
📍 Indian Orchard
📖 Topic: Early Literacy

There are additional sessions throughout the school year focusing on topics including exceptional learning, middle school transformation, helping your child thrive, education websites, MLL/ELL, postsecondary success, college & career readiness, and celebrating student success.

Please make every effort to attend. Bring your questions, your ideas, and your voice. Let’s continue building stronger schools by coming together as a community. 🏫❤️

Your voice matters. Your presence matters. Our children matter.

🔐 COMMUNITY AWARENESS: WHAT IS A CYBER ATTACK?
Concientización Comunitaria: ¿Qué es un ciberataque?

As a School Committee Member, I believe protecting our students, families, staff, and community must include protecting our digital information.

A cyber attack is a deliberate attempt by hackers or cybercriminals to gain unauthorized access to computers, networks, or systems in order to steal information, cause damage, or disrupt services.

🚨 Common cyber attacks include:
• Phishing — Fake emails or messages designed to steal passwords or personal information.
• Ransomware — Locks computer systems or files and demands money to restore access.
• Malware — Harmful software that can damage devices or steal information.
• Data breaches — Unauthorized access to sensitive personal or organizational information.

🏫 Why does this matter to our schools and community?

A cyber attack can disrupt education, affect school operations, expose personal information, create financial losses, and damage the trust our community places in our institutions.

🛡️ We can all help protect our community:
✅ Use strong, unique passwords.
✅ Turn on multi-factor authentication whenever possible.
✅ Don’t click suspicious links or attachments.
✅ Keep phones, computers, and software updated.
✅ Report suspicious activity immediately.
✅ Think before you share personal information online.

Cybersecurity is not just an IT issue — it is a community responsibility.

Together, we can stay informed, alert, and safe.
Our students. Our schools. Our community. Our future.

⸻

🚨 Algunos ciberataques comunes incluyen:

✅ Reporte inmediatamente cualquier actividad sospechosa.
✅ Piense antes de compartir información personal en línea.

La ciberseguridad no es solamente responsabilidad del departamento de tecnología — es responsabilidad de toda nuestra comunidad.

Juntos podemos mantenernos informados, alertas y seguros.
Nuestros estudiantes. Nuestras escuelas. Nuestra comunidad. Nuestro futuro. 🔐🏫🤝
