Located within a stone’s throw of the Missouri River and Katy Trail State Park, and in the heart of historic St. Charles, First Missouri State Capitol State Historic Site is the first seat of the state’s government. Its rough hewn timbers and dark wood floors whisper the tales of the state’s first legislature. Interpretive programs help visitors understand how the state’s government was formed and what life was like in the early 1800s. The state park system is composed of 92 parks and historic sites managed by the Dept. of Natural Resources for the benefit of all Missourians. Yes, we're the second smallest state park... but we still see plenty of wildlife!

Just a reminder: Wildlife is just that, wild! Do not handle any wild animals, and alert park staff if the animal is in an area where it could be a danger to the public or vice versa. The bat and turtle in these photos were handled by park staff and relocated out of the path of the public.
