💙 Caregiver Shoutout: Connie 💙

When Mike first considered home care, he wasn't so sure about welcoming a stranger into his home. Then he met Connie, and after just one visit, those worries began to disappear.

Nearly four years into her time with Visiting Angels St. Charles, Connie has a gift for putting people at ease. Her positive attitude, gentle encouragement, and can-do spirit have helped her build a wonderful friendship with Mike.

Whether she's helping him through a busy day of appointments or they're chatting about Notre Dame football and Tesla cars, Connie has become someone Mike looks forward to seeing and trusts to help him through his day.

And for Mike's daughters, knowing Connie is there brings peace of mind when they can't be.

They may have started as strangers, but Connie and Mike have become quite the team! 💙

For years, they were the ones you called when you needed help.

Then, somewhere along the way, things begin to shift.

Now you’re checking in on Mom. Helping Dad get to an appointment. Asking if there’s food in the house. Paying closer attention when something seems a little different. Trying to figure out what they need today and what they might need six months from now. 💙

No one really teaches you how to navigate this part of being a son or daughter.

Visiting Angels Serving St. Peters, St. Charles, Orchard Farm, Cottleville, Weldon Spring, and the communities of Greater St. Charles can help families understand their options and provide personalized support when an aging parent begins needing extra help at home.

You don’t need to have all the answers. We can help you figure out what comes next.

💜 When Dementia Behaviors Become Challenging, How Should Caregivers Respond?

That's exactly what the caregivers at Visiting Angels St. Charles wanted to learn more about!

During last week's fall caregiver meetings, Mary Stoinski, Executive Director of Dementia Life STL, led a training focused on understanding why challenging dementia behaviors happen and how caregivers can respond.

With so many Visiting Angels St. Charles clients living with some form of dementia, this is knowledge caregivers can put to use during their daily visits.

The session was an addition to the team's ongoing Simulated Dementia Training.

A big thank you to Mary for sharing her expertise! Dementia Life is also a wonderful local resource for families, offering educational seminars, support meetings, and guidance for those navigating dementia. 💜

Changing your words does take practice!

💜 Words Matter. Every Conversation Is an Opportunity to Connect.

The words we use when caring for someone living with dementia can make a meaningful difference. 💚 A gentle tone, a little patience, and the right words can help someone feel safe, valued, and understood.

📌 Save this resource, print it, and share it! Hang it in your staff lounge, post it on the refrigerator, keep it at your nurses’ station, or place it somewhere your team can see it every day.

Whether you’re a family caregiver, healthcare professional, or senior living team member, this is a simple reminder we can all benefit from.

Let’s work together to create more moments of connection, comfort, and compassion. 💜
