Did you know the Butler Hall building dates back to 1915? Originally built as a dormitory, the building later served as an office building for the Humanities.

One of its most interesting features was its swimming pool, which was once considered one of the oldest swimming pools in the region! Although the pool hasn’t seen used in several decades, it remains a unique part of the building’s history.

From student housing and academic offices to the current home of the MakerSpace, Butler Hall has played many roles throughout Lindenwood’s rich history.

This research spotlight from Amber Bailey and Anna Rauch focuses on Accessibility.

Inspired by The Amazing Race, Lindenwood students, faculty, and staff took part in an interactive and educational competition designed to promote disability awareness, accessibility, and adaptability.

Teams completed challenges including a blind puzzle, wheelchair pickleball, dressing with one arm, and Pictionary, each helping participants better understand different disabilities and the importance of adapting activities to meet individual needs.

This event showed that disability doesn't mean you can't participate, it means we may need to find a different approach to the activity. You can view this research poster and more student work on Lindenwood’s Digital Commons platform.

Sporting News Spotlight

Albert Goodwill Spalding. co-founder of the Spalding Sporting Goods Company, wrote “America’s National Game” in 1911 arguing that baseball was an entirely American invention contradicting English writer Henry Chadwick’s claims that baseball evolved from British stick-and-ball games like cricket and rounders.

“America's National Game: Historic Facts Concerning the Beginning, Evolution, Development and Popularity of Base Ball” is one of thousands of books in the Lindenwood Sporting News Collection that tell the story of the evolution of baseball in the early 20th century. These titles act as windows into the history of ‘America’s Pastime' and give researchers a clearer understanding of the specific ways the sport has progressed.
