Today marks the 64th anniversary of Chief John MacDonald's passing.
On October 12, 1962, Chief MacDonald lost his life while protecting his community. He was directing traffic during our high school's homecoming football game when he was struck and killed.
Chief MacDonald was a dedicated law enforcement officer who served the St. Clair City Police Department and this community. He made the ultimate sacrifice while doing something police officers do every day, putting themselves in harm's way to protect others.
We will never forget his service and sacrifice. His memory lives on not only through the St. Clair Police Department, but also through the memorial that stands in his honor, the six-foot statue at the Fallen Heroes Memorial in the park along S. Riverside Ave. north of Clinton Ave.
Let's take a moment to remember Chief MacDonald, his service, and the sacrifice he made for the people of St. Clair.
