Job Description: You will learn the basic fundamentals for the operation of equipment used in the storage and transfer of petroleum products used in the Air Force today. The primary duties of the Fuels Apprentice include receiving, storing, and issuing petroleum products purchased for use in Air Force vehicles, aircraft, and support equipment used on the flight line and throughout the base. Training covers all duties including the actual refueling of aircraft on the flight line with various types of mobile refueling equipment. At your first permanent assignment, you will be given the opportunity to demonstrate the skills you have just learned. While still in training, you will drive refueling vehicles on the flight line and perform the actual refueling of all types of aircraft assigned to that base. Other areas of importance are the Fuels Control Center where all requests for fuel are received, and the operator maintenance of refueling vehicles and flight line hydrant systems. After completing all aspects of the mobile distribution function, you may be assigned to the bulk storage facility where millions of gallons of fuel are stored, issued, and received daily. As a special vehicle mechanic working on refueling trucks, you will be taught in school on the various types of aircraft refueling vehicles, i.e., 5,000 gal tank trucks, hose carts, and hydrant trailers. The various tasks to be performed are tune-up engines, inspecting, troubleshooting, and repair of the 600 gallon-per-minute dispensing system, calibrating fuel meters, hydrostatic testing and replacement of hoses, repair of pump and power take off (PTO).

You do not have to be proficient in a foreign language we will teach you-but it always helps!

If you're interested in this job, the most important skill you need to have the aptitude for learning a new language. A score of at least 110 on the Defense Language Aptitude Battery is also necessary, and you'll need a score of at least 72 on the general (G) section of the Air Force Aptitude Qualification Area of the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) tests.

In addition, you'll need to complete a designated cryptologic language analyst initial skills course, after the requisite 7.5 weeks of basic military training (boot camp) and Airmen's Week.

Other qualifications:

No history of temporomandibular joint disorder or pain
Ability to type at a rate of 25 words per minute
Favorable completion and of a current Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI)
Completion of 7.5 weeks of Basic Military Training as well as Airmen’s Week
Must be between the ages of 17 and 39
Eligibility for a Top Secret security clearance, according to AFI 31-501, Personnel Security Program Management, and for sensitive compartmented information access.
Citizenship: yes
Must be familiar with:

Formats, terminology, and theory of traffic analysis.
Organization of designated military forces.
Procedures for processing and distributing intelligence data.
Methods for handling, distributing, and safeguarding military information.
Training
Training for Cryptologic Linguist occurs in two parts:

The first part is language training, conducted at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California. The length of the training depends on the language being learned. Language training lasts between 47 and 63 weeks, depending on the difficulty level of the language.

Following language training, technical job training is conducted at Goodfellow AFB, Texas. Again, the length of the training depends on the language and can last between 10 and 22 weeks.
