When Theresa Hannegan graduated with her counseling degree, she only applied to one place: Catholic Charities of St. Louis’ Marygrove ministry.
Eight years later, her journey as both a therapist and case manager in Treatment Foster Care has shown her the power of building trust.
From seeing guarded hearts open to celebrating small victories, Theresa shares how this work has transformed not only the lives of foster children, but her own.

Today, on Father's Day, we honor all fathers and father figures who reflect God's love through their strength, sacrifice, and faithful presence.
We especially look to St. Joseph, foster father of the Son of God. Though not Jesus' biological father, St. Joseph embraced his calling wholeheartedly, providing protection, guidance, and unconditional love.
The Church also gives St. Joseph a powerful title: Terror of Demons. Through his obedience, courage, and steadfast protection of the Holy Family, he reminds us that true fatherhood is not passive. It is a vocation marked by strength, sacrifice, and a willingness to protect those entrusted to our care.
At Catholic Charities, we see that same spirit lived out every day through the foster parents served by our ministry Good Shepherd Children & Family Services. By opening their hearts and homes to children in need, foster parents provide the stability, support, and love that help young people thrive.
St. Joseph, foster father of the Son of God and Terror of Demons, pray for us.

When Virginia and Michael Hollingsworth became foster parents through Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of St. Louis’ Good Shepherd ministry, they wanted to make a difference for children who needed a safe and loving place to belong.
What they didn't expect was how much those children would change their lives, too.
With their own children grown, they had room in their home and their hearts. Today, the sibling group in their care bring joy and energy to their days.
As Virginia said, "We may be helping them, but they bless us just as much."
Every child deserves the chance to grow up in a safe, caring home. Could your family be part of their story?
