We’ve now raised a total of $100 with our banana art “funraiser,” which challenges us to ask not only “can anything be Art?” but also “Can anything be a fundraiser?” The answer so far, is yes.

Tag a friend in the comments to challenge them to make a donation to VLAA for any amount between $10 and $6.2 Million in honor of “Bananas!” and we’ll tape one to the wall with their name on it and send the original art image to them.

Kenn is a fiber artist based out of Saint Louis, Missouri. He focus on improv quilting. His experience growing up between Imperial and Ellington, Missouri shapes his art practice. He uses improv and traditional quilting to convey little pieces of memory stitched together.

Dj’s abstract paintings represent significant moments in local and national history and address themes of civil rights, capitalism, and Black identity. DJ often incorporates found objects, historical photographs, and other mised media onto canvas paintings and large murals. His works have been displayed nationally and around the region. In the artist’s words: “I am the box they check-relegated, forgotten, abused. I use abstract designs full of vibrant hues and dynamic forms to give voice to my ancestors and remember our struggles.”

Gary Karasek is a retired architect with a passion for art. His creativity thrives in a wide variety of medias influenced by the world. Nature, cityscapes, landmarks, music, vibrant color, and light all culminate to form his niche as a multi-talented artist.
