"What makes this moment especially alarming is how these two amendments work in tandem," Rep. Keri Ingle writes. "Amendment 4 makes it nearly impossible for the people to push back through the ballot box. Amendment 5 then gives politicians unchecked authority over your tax dollars. Together, they ask voters to hand over long-held constitutional rights with absolutely no guardrails on how that consolidated power can be used."

The Missouri constitution says that any tax increase must be voted on by Missouri citizens. This amendment would eliminate that and give the power to raise taxes to the state. Eliminating the income tax would also place more of the burden for state funding on low and middle income earners.

Good for you Festus! Hey, do you think this would work against politicians elected state-wide that ignore their voter's wishes?
The Jefferson County Clerk confirmed to First Alert 4 Thursday petitioners in Festus have submitted enough signatures to its office to trigger a recall vote targeting three of the city’s six council members, including the mayor.
The recall effort comes amid ongoing pushback over a data center project approved in the Jefferson County town.
In recent months, voters have already ousted three council members who helped approve the project, underscoring how divisive the data center issue has become in Festus.
The recall process now moves to the next step, as the city and county work through the timeline for what could become a special election.
