23 years ago on February 20th, 2003, 100 people died at the Station Nightclub Fire in West Warwick Rhode Island, during a Great White concert.

The fire was caused by pyrotechnics igniting illegally installed flammable urethane and polyethylene foam used as sound insulation. This foam created a deadly mix of Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen Cyanide, which after 3 or 4 short breaths can cause unconsciousness and death by asphyxiation.

The blaze reached flashover within minutes. 230 people were injured while exiting the club and another 132 escaped unharmed. This incident highlights the need for strong leadership who focuses on life safety standards, code enforcement and fire prevention inspections to include the mandatory use of fire sprinklers.

Safety of our residents and building occupants is why we hired a full-time Fire Marshal to make sure occupancies are in compliance with adopted fire codes. In addition, updates are continually being pushed out to our web based pre-plan software so that our can make strategic and tactical decisions based off of the most up to date plans.

Unplug anything with a lithium-ion battery as soon as it’s fully charged. Phones, toys, e-scooters, power tools, and more can start a fire if they are overcharged.

Charge into Fire Safety this by making this simple habit part of your routine.
