On September 29, 1899, a group of Spanish War veterans gathered in Columbus, Ohio, to found the American Veterans of Foreign Service, which today is known as the Veterans of Foreign Wars. On September 29, we celebrate this Founding. After more than a century, the VFW has more than one million members and 6000 posts.

John Wayne never made a film about the Spanish-American War, but he spent his life advocating for veterans and celebrating their accomplishments.

Join everyone here at the John Wayne Birthplace and Museum in celebrating more than a century of the VFW.

Are you interested in starting a collection for your archive or museum, but not sure where to begin?

Join our upcoming webinar to learn from the creator of the Archive of St. Louis Punk, Greg Kessler, on how to start a collection. We will follow the journey of the STL Punk Archive, from Greg's personal collection to being featured in the Missouri History Society's St. Louis Sound exhibit.
