The City is implementing a modified curfew for individuals age 17 and under. The start time each night is 10:00 p.m., and the end time is 5:00 a.m. the following morning. The curfew is in effect on the nights of Friday, March 20th; Saturday, March 21st; and Sunday, March 22nd.

Young people may still be out during curfew hours if they are with a parent or guardian, or with an adult (age 21 or older) approved by a parent; going directly home from work, school events, or religious or community activities (within one hour of the activity ending); or outside their own home or a next-door neighbor’s home (as long as there are no concerns raised).

The City is implementing the curfew as a proactive public safety measure heading into the weekend. The City is also taking additional measures including deploying traffic calming measures, enforcing existing liquor and occupancy laws, and providing Behavioral Health Response team members to complement law enforcement activities with juveniles.

To help your household, your neighbors and the city in the winter storm, here are a few things you can do:

Let cold water drip from faucets served by exposed pipes, and shut off the valves for exterior spigots.

Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate around plumbing.

Bring pets inside.

Keep the sidewalk free of snow and see if any neighbors need assistance. Do a warm-up beforehand, go slowly and take frequent breaks.

If your home is next to a fire hydrant, we appreciate your help digging those out in case the Fire Department needs them.

Always keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn, including papers, clothing and rugs. Never leave a heater unattended and always turn it off before going to bed or leaving the room. Ensure your space heater has an automatic shut-off feature in case it tips over.

Let the City know about any issues or needs for service by calling 311 or making an online Citizens' Service Bureau request.

Call 211 if you or someone else needs shelter.

Avoid travel and remain home if possible. If you must travel, leave early to give plenty of time, and increase your following distance from 3-4 seconds to 5-6 seconds. It takes longer to slow down and stop on icy roads.

If on the road, please give plows plenty of room to work. If possible, park off-street in a driveway or garage.

Thank you for helping keep the St. Louis community safe.

Need salt?

We have plenty, and while our crews will put most of it to good use, residents, neighborhood assosications and other groups are welcome to pick some up.

The STL Street Department has placed 1.5 tons of salt intended for residential use at each of the following St. Louis Fire Department locations:

1. STLFD Engine House 1 @ 2910 Jefferson Ave.
2. STLFD Engine House 6 @ 5747 Manchester Ave.
3. STLFD Engine House 12 @ 5214 W. Florissant Ave.
4. STLFD Engine House 36 @ 5000 S. Kingshighway Blvd.
5. STLFD HQ @ the corner of Jefferson and Cass.

Residents are encouraged to pick up salt for home use prior to the onset of winter weather this weekend. While a number of bags are available at each location, we highly encourage residents to bring their own buckets or other means to carry the salt they need.

With the upcoming winter storm, the city is moving to a level 4 Code Blue tomorrow. What does that mean?

We are increasing shelter space. 600 emergency shelter beds will be open, giving us approximately 1,000 shelter beds across the city. Shelters are the safest option for individuals who need to stay warm.

Shelters will be open during the daytime from Thursday evening through Monday morning (Thursday is a level 3 activation. We go to level 4 during the daytime Friday).

If you need help coordinating transportation or special circumstances (families, pets, etc.), please call the United Way Helpline by dialing 211.

You can learn about the levels of shelter and transportation activation during different weather conditions in the graphic below.

Details on walk-up shelters and transportation rally points below.

Thursday through Sunday, walk-up shelter is available at the following locations:

North City:
Peter & Paul - Jugan Shelter (single men, single women, and family rooms)
