If you didn't know! The new METRO Mayor is already being investigated. So, is this what we have to look forward to? We are going to change many peoples lives for the worst with this plan and the people involved can't even stay clean for a few months while they try to put this up for a vote. There are no do overs in life, only corrections. How many people will lose before we realize this is a mistake worth correcting now!

COMMUNITY FACT SHEET ON
ST. LOUIS CITY- COUNTY MERGER
On January 28, 2019, a plan was released to merge St. Louis City and St. Louis County. The City and County divorced in the so-called “Great Divorce in 1876.” There have been numerous attempts to reunite the two municipalities, including in 1926, 1939, 1950 and more recently in 1960 and 1992. None of these efforts succeeded. An effort was relaunched in 2013 to conduct studies to determine the feasibility of a merger. The plan, released by Better Together, seeks to promote unity, trust, efficiency and accountability and act as a catalyst to remove those barriers that are impeding our community thrive.
The plan failed to address the impact the merger would have on local governments and communities. To this end, this fact sheet is being provided to inform the community of how it will affect their access to government services and resources.
NEGATIVE IMPACTS OF BETTER TOGETHER
ON CITY RESIDENTS TAXES: Plan will increase taxes for current St. Louis City residents. Property, utilities (gas, electric, water, etc.) will increase. Dissolve St. Louis City’s earning tax, a major source of revenue for the city.
1. VOTING RIGHT: Citizens will lose their right to vote for all elected officials until 2025, when new Metro City Council be voted on. (City of St. Louis Mayor, Prosecuting Attorney, Comptroller, Board of Alderman and all other elected officials will be dissolved).
2. GOVERNMENT: St. Louis County Executive Director will become the Mayor of a new entity called “the Metropolitan City of St. Louis (Metro City),” formerly known as St. Louis City and St. Louis County. St. Louis City becomes governed by a five member board which will be eventually appointed by the Metro Mayor. Metro City Mayor will appoint four Deputy Mayors.
3. ORDINANCES: All St. Louis County ordinances will govern the entire Metro City. St. Louis City ordinances will phase-out.
4. COURTS: Municipal Courts systems will be set up in predominantly African-American communities. St. Louis County comprises 11% of Missouri’s population, yet accounts for a staggering 34% of all fines and fees collected in Missouri. As of 2013, 21 municipalities in the region produced 20% of their operating budgets from fines and fees. Of these 20 are located north of Olive Boulevard and east of 1-270 in St. Louis County, where 62% of the African-American population resides.
Prosecuting Attorney in the County will be responsible for courts. Judges will be appointed by the Metro City Mayor.
5. NEIGHBORHOOD IDENTITIES: Neighborhood names will go away. No more Tower Grove, The Hill, Dutch town, Fairgrounds, Hyde Park or others.
6. FUNDS: All State and Federal funds allocated to St. Louis City will be controlled and distributed by the Municipal Corporation.
7. ABOLISH ST. LOUIS CITY DEPARTMENTS: By November 15, 2022, the Mayor and Transitional Mayor will hold meetings to plan, create and abolish departments, divisions, boards, offices etc. This means that St. Louis City employees will lose their jobs.
