Last spring, the PTO Garden Committee had the privilege of teaching 3rd-grade students about the importance of native perennial plants through hands-on experience transplanting over 30 perennials into raised beds for our first pollinator garden behind the school. Since then, the garden has flourished, filled with beautiful blooms, and is visited daily by a variety of pollinators that we hope you’ve all enjoyed seeing!
We’re pleased to share that last week, Mr. Avroch’s 3rd-grade class helped our committee again, transplanting over 30 different native perennial plants in-ground into our 2nd pollinator garden in front of the school, putting Northeast Elementary on the pollinatorpathway once again! 🌼🪻🌸 Having recently started learning about maps, this was a great opportunity for them to learn not just about native plants and perennials, but also how gardeners use maps to create gardens and ensure plants have room to grow. They weren’t afraid to get their hands dirty and enjoyed finding garden friends along the way 🪱🐛🐜
This garden completes the Committee’s 2026 pollinator project, made possible after being named a City of Stamford Community Micro-Grant Award recipient! We’re so grateful to Eden Farms Nursery for their continued support, generosity, and guidance with all of our garden needs! 🫶 Special thanks to Designs by Lee | Garden Center for their support as well. We’re lucky to have a community of volunteers, local businesses, and parents who embrace this work and hope you all enjoy it as much as we do! PS - If you garden at home or are interested in what we’re doing, we welcome your suggestions and involvement! 🌟
