Alliant will be here on Friday afternoon, after closing, to disconnect the electricity and gas lines at the library so they can be rerouted over the weekend before the expansion construction begins on Monday. Please note that we will not be open over the weekend and will open again on Monday as soon as possible.

The contractors will be putting temporary fencing around the construction site after digging has started. We welcome people to drive by or walk by on the sidewalk to keep an eye on progress. Please do not enter the construction site. We also ask for no "Sidewalk Superintendants" that stop and harass the contractors. I promise, they are vetted professionals and know what they're doing! ;) Things will definitely get messier inside and out before this process is over. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we make the library a better place!

Thank you to all who braved the weather yesterday as we broke ground on a vital new addition to our beloved library. This groundbreaking is not just about moving dirt or pouring concrete, it is about expanding our community’s horizons and breaking ground on the future.

For years, this library has been a cornerstone of our community. It is a quiet place for discovery, a lively hub for programs, children’s play, and a meeting of friends, as well as a sanctuary and safe place for all. But as our involvement in the community has grown, so have our needs. This new addition represents our commitment to meeting those needs head-on.

With this new space, we aren’t just adding square footage. We are creating:
-More opportunities for the programs and services we can offer.
-Expanded community rooms where neighbors can gather, collaborate, and share ideas.
-Quiet, accessible spaces ensuring that every single member of our community feels welcome and included.

An investment in a library is a profound act of faith in the future. By expanding this building, we are declaring that we believe in the power of knowledge, the strength of connection, and the lifelong potential of our patrons.

This milestone is a collaborative victory. It would not be possible without the tireless dedication of our library staff and board members, our wonderful architects and builders, and most importantly, you-our community members and patrons whose support and advocacy brought us to this moment.

So, as we pick up our shovels, let’s celebrate the stories that have been written within these walls, and look forward with excitement to the brand-new chapters we are about to create together!

Yesterday was a busy day at the library!

Miss Sarah was here in the afternoon with the Roving Retirees talking about fish native to Iowa! 🐟

Did you know that you can determine a fish's age by the number of lines on their scales and that darker sections meant they grew in colder temperatures? Or the scary fact that some fish have teeth in their esophagus?!

Last night, the Novel Idea Book Club met to discuss The Museum of Extraordinary Things by Alice Hoffman.

Next month, they'll be reading The hate u give by Angie Thomas. This novel is about an ordinary girl in extraordinary circumstances and addresses racism and police violence with intelligence, heart, and unflinching honesty. We would love to have you join us! Stop at the library to pick up a copy!

Friends, we have some exciting news! They will begin construction on the library addition next week! The plan is to have the concrete poured and everything framed and closed in before the weather changes so they can work inside over the winter. They are estimating that it will be completed by the end of March/early April!

The library staff and board members will be hosting a groundbreaking ceremony this Wednesday, September 30th, at 5:00 pm. Yes, we know the Homecoming Parade starts at 6 pm, but we promise to be quick! We would love to have everyone from the community celebrate with us at this momentous occasion. We hope to see you there!

**Tomorrow is a big day, Stanwood!**

Join us at the library at 10:30 am for A Bookworm's Story Hour celebrating Johnny Appleseed Day!

Then head down to the park for Stanwood Fun Fest to enjoy all the fun and games from 11-3!

Meet us back at the park later at 6:00 pm for the National Good Neighbor Day Potluck! Bring your own table service and a dish or dessert to share! Water and lemonade will be provided!

After dinner, end the evening at Thirsty on Thirty for the Funfest evening activities!

Come out and support your community and meet your neighbors!
