🎃 A little spooky fun at Books & Badges 🎃

SRO Detective Takeuchi joined our friends at the Star Library for our monthly Books & Badges and this month’s stories brought some Halloween adventures!

We ventured through a spooky house with a mummy, a ghost, and a witch in “We’re Going on a Pumpkin Hunt,” then discovered which animal friends were hiding beneath the hats in “Who’s Under That Hat?”

The fun didn’t stop at the last page! After storytime, Detective Takeuchi gave the children from a local daycare a closer look at his patrol car.

Yesterday, Sheriff Clifford, Chief Deputy Hessing, Chief Haynes, and deputies from Star Police attended the grand opening of Liberty Hall, followed by Mayor Chadwick’s State of the City address.

We were impressed with how Liberty Hall turned out and are excited to see the doors open to the community. The new space will host city events and larger meetings, including the State of the City, and will be available for community members to rent for special events.

During his address, Mayor Chadwick shared statistics from Star Police and Mid/Star Fire, explained how impact fees are used, and discussed funding for the road construction taking place throughout Star. He also provided updates on other city facilities and shared plans for the city’s future.

A highlight of the evening was the Idaho Liberty Bell, which was on display during the event. Sheriff Clifford and Chief Deputy Hessing both had the opportunity to ring it!

Thank you to everyone who helped bring Liberty Hall to life. We look forward to seeing the community gather and enjoy this new space.

Did you know the Ada County Driver’s License locations offer a limited number of walk-in and same-day appointments?

Over the last few years, our Driver’s License locations have operated by appointment only, but now we are able to accommodate some walk-ins, including at our Star location at 10769 W. State St.

Scheduling an appointment on our website is always preferred, but we are here to help if you need same-day service!

Today was the 8th Annual Star Chamber Chili Cook-Off and Brewfest at the Riverhouse, and things got pretty heated! 🌶️

Chief Haynes was behind the scenes serving as a judge (tough job, but someone had to do it), while our deputies walked around chatting with attendees. In the spirit of full transparency, they may have also conducted a thorough investigation of the chili.

There was something for everyone: mild to spicy, beans or no beans, and every kind of meat (or no meat) you can imagine. Thank you to the Star Chamber of Commerce, Idaho for hosting, and congrats to all the competitors.

Here is a quick snapshot of what SPD was up to in August!

These numbers reflect activity of Star Police deputies — including both calls for service they responded to and proactive activity they initiated.

Citizen calls for service are generated through calls to Ada County Dispatch. Proactive activity is deputy initiated and can include things such as traffic stops, extra patrol, follow up investigations, and other self-initiated enforcement or prevention efforts.

Big news, Star — thanks to all of your votes, K9 Luna is a finalist in the 2027 National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund K9 Calendar and will be featured in next year's calendar!

We don't know which month she'll land on yet, but we couldn't be more excited to share her with the calendar's supporters nationwide next year.
