Last week, CTE students, teachers and Millsaps Ambassadors took a few hands-on experiences on the road at the annual FORGE Golden Triangle Career Expo. Welding, construction, electrical, unmanned aviation, health sciences and more... students joined representatives from a variety of trade skills industry partners and businesses to showcase career and training options in the area. Students created displays to educate about the 2-year Millsaps programs, talked with attendees from area schools, and led interactive demonstrations and activities about the CTE pathways available to high school students. They even had the chance to talk with some of our Armstrong Junior High Jackets who were in attendance!

This week, Millsaps hosted our 9th graders for a CTE Preview Day featuring hands-on activities, and an introduction to the 2-year pathways available for students. Millsaps student ambassadors and CTE instructors hosted rotations where freshmen could ask questions and experience some of the career-centered learning experiences that are part of the classes.

Through our Career and Technical pathways, students gain real-world experience, earn national certifications, and relevant training. From unmanned aviation and health sciences to construction and digital media, these courses can help Jackets bridge the gap between academics and their next steps after high school.

Well-deserved, Anas, Michael and Avani!

Representing the Yellow Jackets with excellence! Last week, the Mississippi Department of Education announced a slate of 144 Mississippi students who were accepted as members of the 2026-2027 State Superintendent Student Advisory Council. This year's council includes three members who attend Starkville High School. SHS juniors, Anas Farooqui and Michael Taquino, and SHS senior Avani Parchane, were selected for the honor through a statewide application process.

"We are very proud of these three outstanding SHS students for their commitment to academic excellence," said Dr. Tony McGee, Superintendent of the Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District. "They will be wonderful ambassadors and representatives of SOCSD as they share their unique perspectives about public education with the State Superintendent."
