🚨 BURN BAN NOTICE – CITY OF STARKVILLE 🚨City of Starkville, MS

Due to current weather conditions and dry vegetation, the City of Starkville is under a burn ban. Multiple fires have been reported in our area over the past week, and continued dry conditions increase the risk of fires spreading quickly.

Please refrain from all open burning until further notice.

⚡🔥 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK 2026 🔥⚡

This year’s theme is “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower.”

Lithium-ion batteries power many of the devices we use every day—but when they are damaged, improperly charged, or used incorrectly, they can create a serious fire hazard.

🔋 Remember:
• Use the charger designed for your device.
• Never charge damaged or swollen batteries.
• Don’t charge devices under pillows, blankets, or on beds.
• Unplug chargers when charging is complete.
• Keep batteries away from extreme heat.
• Purchase devices and batteries from reputable manufacturers.

A few simple charging habits can help prevent a fire and protect your family, your home, and your community.

Stay safe. Charge smart. 🔥⚡

🔥🚒 Fire Safety Starts Young!

Today, Starkville Fire Department had the opportunity to visit the MSU Child Development Center to spend some time with the children and staff while sharing important fire safety lessons.

We talked about what to do when the smoke alarm sounds, the importance of getting outside quickly, and why firefighters are there to help—even when we look a little different in our gear.

We appreciate the MSU Child Development Center for welcoming us and making fire safety education a priority. Teaching these lessons early can help build habits that last a lifetime.

Thankfully, injuries were minor. This is another reminder of how quickly a routine drive can change.

Please wear your seat belt every time you get behind the wheel. The life you save may be your own.

Today, we recognize and celebrate the retirement of a true public servant, a respected leader, and a great friend to many — Stein McMullen.

Stein began his career with the Starkville Fire Department on November 25, 1996. Over the next 24 years, he worked his way through the ranks, ultimately serving as Fire Marshal. His career with the Fire Department was marked by dedication, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to protecting the citizens and community he served.

In 2021, Stein continued his service to Starkville in a new role, accepting the position of City Building Official on April 16, 2021. He brought the same knowledge, work ethic, integrity, and commitment to that position, continuing to make a difference in the growth and development of our city. City of Starkville, MS

On September 30, 2026, Stein will officially retire after 30 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Starkville, having served this community in multiple roles and made an impact that will be felt long after his retirement.

Thirty years of service is more than a career — it is a legacy. Stein has given countless hours, made difficult decisions, mentored others, and helped make Starkville a safer and better place to live, work, and raise a family.

Stein, thank you for your friendship, your leadership, your dedication, and most importantly, for the way you have served this community with honor and integrity. It has been a privilege to work alongside you, and I am proud to call you a friend.

Congratulations on your retirement, Stein. You have earned this next chapter. May retirement bring you the time, freedom, and opportunities to enjoy all the things you’ve worked so hard for over the past 30 years.

Thank you for a career well served. Your impact on Starkville will not be forgotten.

Congratulations, my friend! 👏🔥🇺🇸
