In a healthy relationship, partners respect each other’s time, boundaries, and privacy. Being in a relationship with someone does not entitle that person to complete or constant access. When a partner is watching, tracking, excessively contacting, threatening, and otherwise scaring their victim – that may be domestic violence AND stalking.

Laura Shadle: Today I join fellow survivors and advocates participating in 💜 It’s on us to create a more trauma informed community by standing with survivors, holding abusers accountable, challenging stigmas surrounding PTSD, and supporting organizations like Centre Safe who always have our backs.

“I’m very proud of everyone at Centre Safe. Everybody’s there for a reason. We all share a common goal.” 💜

For 50 years, Centre Safe’s strength has come from people who believe that no survivor should have to face victimization alone.

From advocates and staff to volunteers, supporters, donors, and community partners, each person plays an important role in creating a safer, more supportive community.

Our common goal is simple: support survivors, prevent violence, and work toward a future where everyone can live with safety, dignity, and respect.

As we celebrate 50 years of service, please consider making a gift to the Centre Safe 50th Anniversary Fund. https://centresafe.org/50th-anniversary-fund/

💜 Honor the people who have carried this mission forward. Help us continue the work for the next 50 years.

Mykhala Richner: Today is where we wear purple to show support for victims and survivors of domestic violence.

As a survivor myself, I am endlessly appreciative for the work our local organizations like Centre Safe do to support and advocate for this community and continue to educate on the different appearances of abuse and how we help support individuals who are or have gone through these awful circumstances. Domestic Violence is not just physical. Emotional and financial abuse are real. It is hard to leave when you are convinced they will change.

My parting advise is this: If your gut is telling you something is off, even when it is seemingly small, step away. Create distance. And if you think its not happening to you because its not fitting perfectly in a box of preconceived ideas of abuse, I did too. And I promise it gets better once you get out. 💜

Centre Safe’s Empty Place at the Table display is moving from YMCA of Centre County Penns Valley to the Bellefonte location, continuing its important mission of raising awareness about domestic violence and honoring the lives lost to it.

Each place at the table represents a life lost to domestic violence and serves as a powerful reminder that behind every statistic is a person, a family, and a community forever changed by violence.

We’re grateful to Penns Valley YMCA for helping share this important message and to Bellefonte YMCA for welcoming the display and continuing to raise awareness throughout Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Together, we can break the silence, raise awareness, and build a community where everyone deserves to feel safe. 💜
