Penn State research professor Janet Welsh has been honored by the State College Sunrise Rotary for her volunteer service with the Alpha Fire Company, for exceptional dedication to service in our community! πŸŽ‰

Janet has been a leader in prevention science for decades, and her commitment to community well-being doesn’t stop at the office door. At Alpha Fire Company, she serves as a Fire Police lieutenant, a member of the Hazmat Response team, and company secretary. It’s no small commitment: in 2025 alone, the company responded to 1,697 incidents.

Her work is a reminder that prevention is ultimately about caring for our communities. πŸ’™

Congratulations, Janet, on this well-deserved honor!

Did you know the 4th Grade PAYS Survey helps communities understand what it is like to be a child growing up today?

Students share information about topics such as: βœ… School experiences βœ… Friendships and peer relationships βœ… Feelings about safety βœ… Family support βœ… Healthy choices and behaviors

When students participate, schools and community organizations gain valuable insights that help create programs and supports that meet children's real needs.

Every response helps tell the story of our community's youth.
