The biggest single-day food drive of the year is coming, and it happens because of Scouts across our community.

On November 7, local Scouts will be collecting nonperishable food donations door to door. Leaving a bag of food out for pickup that morning is one of the simplest, most impactful ways to support our neighbors before the holidays.

This single drive alone typically provides tens of thousands of pounds of food. Mark your calendar for November 7 -- Thank you for putting out your donations and supporting the Food Bank and the Scouts!

SOS: Send Soup!!

You all blew things out of the water with cereal! Can we do it now with ready-to-eat soup?! Walmart is having a good sale right now!

Holiday giving starts earlier than most people realize, and that is exactly why your support matters right now, not just in December.

Our Thanksgiving distributions actually begin in late October, which means donations made today have a real impact on what households across Centre County receive this season. A few ideal items to consider are shelf-stable holiday staples, canned vegetables, and pantry basics that help round out a full meal.

See our donation drop-off hours at scfoodbank.org/donate/food-donations. We are so grateful for everything you do to help our neighbors this season.

💚 Hunger Action Month May Be Ending, But the Work Continues 💚

As Hunger Action Month comes to a close, we’re reminded of something important: fighting hunger takes all of us—this month and every month.

There are many ways you can make a difference in our Centre County community:

👐 Volunteer your time – Help us serve our neighbors.

🥫 Give food – Help keep our shelves stocked with nutritious options.

💵 Give financially – Your support helps us purchase fresh, healthy foods and meet the needs of our community.

📣 Advocate – Support policies and programs that strengthen food security.

📚 Learn & share – Understanding food insecurity helps us build compassion, reduce stigma, and create change.

Hunger doesn’t end when September does. Neither does our commitment to making sure our neighbors have access to the food they need.

Thank you for standing with us, supporting our mission, and being part of a community that cares. Together, we can keep fighting hunger—every month of the year. 💚

SOS: SEND CEREAL! 🚨 Our cereal shelves are looking very bare these days. We accept donations 24/7 in our donation drop-off room. Every box will help make sure our community has access to the most important meal of the day!

✨ Some Stories Are Worth Repeating ✨

We’ve shared this story before, but its message is one we believe is worth hearing again—especially during Hunger Action Month.

One of our clients shared how the Food Bank has supported not just their nutrition, but their energy, well-being, and sense of progress:

“When I first started coming to the Food Bank, it took me several exhausting trips to carry groceries up to my apartment and even longer to put them away. A year later, I can carry everything in one trip and get it all stored before needing a rest. To me, that’s growth and healing.”

They also shared that the abundance of food they receive each month has come to feel like something more—a tangible expression of love and support from their community.

That’s the impact of food security.

It’s not just about pounds of food distributed. It’s about having enough nourishment to regain energy. It’s about dignity. It’s about being able to recognize your own progress. And sometimes, it’s about knowing that your community cares.

💙 This Hunger Action Month, we’re reminded that when we support our neighbors, we strengthen our entire community.

Thank you for being part of that support. 🧡

Right now, a few items are running especially low on our shelves: individually packaged snacks, specific pasta varieties, and other pantry staples that help round out a full grocery trip for the households who shop with us.

Because we operate as a client-choice pantry, having a full and varied selection matters. It means a neighbor can pick what actually fits their family's needs, not just what happens to be on the shelf that day.

See our full Current Needs list at scfoodbank.org/donate/current-needs-list. Thank you for helping us keep those shelves stocked.

09/14/2026

The State College Food Bank will be closing at 3:30PM today, September 14th due to our benefit concert this evening. If you plan to visit the pantry, please arrive prior to 3:30PM.

Thank you for your understanding!

🌍 Learn & Act: Take Steps Against Hunger in Our Community 🌍

Hunger is closer than many of us realize. Families in Centre County can face difficult choices between food, housing, transportation, healthcare, and other everyday expenses. Learning more about the realities of food insecurity helps us better understand the challenges our neighbors face—and how we can help.

This Hunger Action Month, turn awareness into action:

1️⃣ Learn – Explore local resources and reports, including the United Way’s ALICE Report, to better understand the financial challenges facing families in our community.

2️⃣ Get Involved – Volunteer with the State College Food Bank or participate in community efforts like the CROP Hunger Walk and Scouting for Food.

3️⃣ Spread the Word – Help break the stigma around hunger by talking about food insecurity, sharing what you learn, and encouraging others to get involved.

4️⃣ See What We Do – Schedule a tour of the State College Food Bank and see firsthand how our community comes together to fight hunger.

Awareness is the first step. Action is how we create change. 💚
