Would you look at that bad boy! Microgreens for the win!
Last week at our HealthFest β24, Miss Anna Edwards with Iredell Soil & Water Conservation District had a station where the kiddos could plant micro greens to eat. Today we received this photo from Easton (with the help of his grandma π) showing us his radish micro greens! How fun to see your seeds grow so that you can enjoy them! Thank you, Anna and Iredell Soil & Water Conservation District for sharing your knowledge and this great activity with our children! πβοΈ

This past week, South Iredell High School's Cane Toads competed in the oh-so-wonderful NC Envirothon on Friday & Saturday, April 26th-27th at Cedarock Park in Burlington, NC. The NC Envirothon competition is designed to test the knowledge and skills of students who have a strong interest in environmental sciences, and of course, natural resource conservation.
To qualify for the state competition, SIHS's Cane Toads first competed in the Southern Piedmont Envirothon where they placed fourth overall. The top seven teams advance to the state level.
Congratulations to their advisor, Lenae Scafidi, and her incredible team, the Cane Toads from South Iredell High School! WOOOOOO!
*P.S. Look at those huge, beautiful smiles! Don't you want to be as happy as them while learning about natural resources? Sure you do! Call ISWCD for more information about NC Envirothon today!*

Check out this awesome throwback article from Our State Magazine found by Rebekah Russell, one of our staff members!
This article highlights some of the dairy operations here in our very own Iredell County! Although this article is 8 years old, there are still many lines that stand true today!
Fun fact: One of Iredell Soil & Water Conservation District's very own supervisors, Dennis Leamon is quoted in this article!
βTheyβre just like people,β Leamon says. βEvery one has its own personality.β π
The Cows of Iredell County | Our State
The number of farms in Iredell County has diminished now to about 45, but not our appreciation for these dairy queens β and the families who love them.

The purpose of the North Carolina Ag-Wrap Program is to identify opportunities to increase water use efficiency, availability and storage, implement best management practices (BMPs) to conserve and protect water resources, increase water use efficiency, & increase water storage and availability for agricultural purposes.
The North Carolina Agricultural Cost Share Program (ACSP) helps address nonpoint source pollution by providing technical and financial resources through a voluntary, incentive-based program designed to improve water quality through the installation of various best management practices (BMPs) on agricultural lands directly involved with agriculture production.
Follow the website below to view each program's eligibility and program requirements! If you would like to set up an appointment for one of these programs or would like more information, feel free to contact Rebekah Russell, our District Ag Cost Share Conservationist, using the information listed on the image below!

Good afternoon, everyone! Thank you all for finding and supporting our new page.
With our first post, we'd like to congratulate and put ALL of the spotlight on Grayhouse Farms, Inc. of our very own Stony Point here in Iredell County. The Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy has named Grayhouse Farms, Inc. as one of it's 2022 Sustainability Award winners. One of only seven winners, Grayhouse Farms Inc. earned this award fair and square over the course of several years with more hard work and dedication that can be recognized. No one knows the true work to go into something like this unless you're the person(s) behind the scene making it look easy to those who are watching from the sidelines. To all of Grayhouse Farms, Inc. family, employees, friends, and others that have made this happen, you are so appreciated and seen for what you do, not only for our community of Iredell, but our state of North Carolina and Mother Earth as a whole!
Please take the time to watch this short, but wonderful video capturing just a little of what Grayhouse Farms, Inc. does for us.
