Throughout June, Oakwood Middle is celebrating Black Music Month by pairing influential songs that shaped our culture with poignant picture books that reflect the same powerful themes. June 2, 1996, the number one Hip Hop song was “Tha Crossroads” by Bone Thugs-in-Harmony. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony’s Tha Crossroads and story The Heart and the Bottle both explore the pain of loss and the journey of carrying loved ones with us through memories, love, and hope. Together, they remind us that while grief can change us, the people we cherish continue to shape our lives long after they are gone.

OAKWOOD CROSS COUNTRY
Optional summer training schedule
Purpose: Coaches Brian Hinkle and Lynn Stone will be offering optional open trails throughout the summer in an effort to help our runners get or stay in shape for the upcoming season. Parents are welcome to walk or run themselves as the workouts will only last one hour. These sessions will not be organized as practices, as we cannot begin organized team practices until the end of July. Runners can determine on their own how hard they want to train. This would be a great opportunity to meet up with friends or make new ones.
Requirements: All student-athletes must have required “paperwork” submitted to Dragonfly before he or she can participate. Runners should also bring a water bottle or sports drink as it will probably be pretty warm during summer evenings.
Time: All open trails sessions will take place between 6:30 and 7:30 PM.
