Six Suspects Arrested After Dispute Escalates Into Shooting

Sheriff Campbell stated: On May 21, 2026, deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the 300 block of Branchwood Road, Statesville in reference to a reported shooting.

While responding to the scene, deputies were advised that the suspects who had shot at an occupied residence were fleeing the area in a white BMW. Deputy D. Ashely located the suspect vehicle and performed a traffic stop near the intersection of Nixon Road and Shumaker Road. Five adult suspects and one juvenile were identified as suspects in this incident.

Detectives with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, secured both the residence and the suspect vehicle, and began interviewing witnesses. Based on witness statements, detectives determined the shooting stemmed from an altercation that occurred earlier that day at a business in downtown Statesville.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for the vehicle. During the search, investigators located a pistol and several shell casings. It was also determined that the home had been hit by gunfire.

All suspects were transported to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, where detectives obtained multiple arrest warrants for Felony Discharging a Firearm into Occupied Property, Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill, Felony Conspiracy, and Misdemeanor Injury to Personal Property. The adult suspects were also charged with Misdemeanor Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. One suspect also received an additional charge of Misdemeanor Carrying a Concealed Weapon without a Permit.

All adult suspects were transported to the Iredell County Detention Center and appeared before Magistrate Thompson, who ordered each to be held without bond. The juvenile suspect was charged as an adult and transported to the Alexander County Juvenile Detention Center.

This investigation is still on-going, and additional charges may be forthcoming.

⭐Sheriff Campbell added, “Thanks to the quick response of our patrol deputies, these suspects were able to be located, identified, and arrested. As a result of this thorough investigation, these suspects will hopefully receive the punishment they deserve. Their actions could have easily had an even more serious or even deadly outcome”.
