Middle River Regional Jail Administrative offices are open from 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday - Friday.

Middle River Regional Jail is a secure adult detention facility that operates under the Virginia Department of Corrections Minimum Standards for Jails and Lockups. Built in 2006 on a 28 acre site, the facility has a 902 bed capacity and is approximately 212,020 sq. ft.

Middle River Regional Jail serves a population of over 250,000. The facility offers assistance to hearing impaired individuals upon request and based on needs.

Proudly serving Staunton, Waynesboro, Harrisonburg, and the counties of Augusta, Highland, and Rockingham.

NOTE: Both the facility and the grounds surrounding it are to***co free. Please do not bring any to***co products onto the property or into the facility.

We have received reports of scammers impersonating jail officials and requesting gift cards, electronic payments, or other funds in exchange for negotiating or arranging an inmate’s release.

Middle River Regional Jail officials will never call or request payment in gift cards or solicit money.

Do not provide payment or personal information. If you believe you have been targeted or victimized by this scam, please contact your local law enforcement agency so they can help us arrange alternative housing for these scammers.

Update to water outage:

Partial water (drinking/sanitary) was restored throughout the day 6/22, and complete restoration of service by 10PM 6/22.

Middle River Regional Jail mourns the loss of Jocelyn Raven Bedow, a valued member of our team who passed away on January 14, 2026.

Jocelyn served as a forensic discharge planner and was known for her compassion, professionalism, and dedication to helping others. She will be deeply missed by her colleagues.

We extend our sincere condolences to her family and loved ones and ask that their privacy be respected during this difficult time.

Middle River Regional Jail regrets the loss of retired Officer Joseph Miller. Joe was a local institution, a man who always went out of the way for his friends and for strangers, and dedicated his life to helping others.
