Staunton Housing Commission Education Series — Session #1

The City of Staunton’s Housing Commission is launching a new free virtual Housing Education Series, and the first session is next week!

Monday, October 26, 2026
5:30 – 7:00 p.m.
Virtually via Zoom

On the agenda:

Lower Your Utility Bill: Ella Kitterman, Manager of Partnerships and Community Impact at Dimension Energy, will explain how households with lower incomes can qualify for a reduction on their Dominion Energy bill through a Community Solar program. Signing up is all it takes, and you don’t need solar panels on your home to participate.

2026 Housing Legislation Update: Patrick McCloud, CEO of the Virginia Apartment Management Association (VAMA), will walk through the many housing bills passed by the General Assembly in its 2026 Session.

A Q&A will follow the presentations.

To register, contact Rebecca Joyce, Housing Planner and Grants Coordinator, at [email protected] or 540.213.6699.

Can’t make it live? Each session will be recorded and posted on the City’s website for later viewing.

Please share with neighbors, residents, landlords, and anyone who cares about housing in Staunton! 🏡

Your voice matters for the future of Booker T. Washington Community Center

The City of Staunton, VA – Government is hosting two community listening sessions to hear your memories, ideas, and hopes for the next chapter of this historic landmark.

Booker T. Washington Community Center
1114 W. Johnson Street
Monday, Oct. 12 | 6–8 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 31 | 10 a.m.–12 p.m.

Built in 1936, Booker T. Washington High School was the Black high school for the Staunton area during segregation and remained an educational and cultural center until the mid-1960s. Today it's listed on both the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places, and its future is a key part of the West End Revitalization Plan.

The sessions will be facilitated by The Spark Mill, who also guided SRHA's strategic planning process. We know firsthand how well they create space for real, open conversation.

Can't make it? Share your thoughts through the City's online survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfGMxiWHlnvhYyPrz2fa0oJCQ5s3uxDgfWslFbaqLC5IndnrA/viewform?pli=1
