For Faith and Blue 2026, the Staunton Police Department partnered with First Presbyterian Church Staunton and members of the Kiwanis Club of Staunton. Our officers helped pack 150 bags for the Home Goods Community Pantry at the church.

The Home Goods Community Pantry provides household cleaning and paper products to those in need. We would like to thank First Presbyterian Church for partnering with us again this year!

October is Pedestrian Safety Month

Here are some quick pedestrian safety tips from NHTSA:

*When you’re walking, keep your attention on what’s happening around you.
*Watch for traffic before crossing, stay visible, and avoid distractions along the way.
*Stay alert from curb to curb. When you’re a pedestrian, use crosswalks when possible, stay visible, and watch for approaching vehicles.

🚧 Fall Paving Begins Monday, Oct. 12 🚧

Thanks to contractor availability, Public Works is squeezing in a fall paving schedule.

Crews are kicking things off in the Hillcrest neighborhood on Monday, Oct. 12. Highlighted on the map in orange, crews will be working on:
• Shawn Circle
• Yount Avenue
• Fox Hill Place
• Oxford Drive
• Sussex Drive
(Fox Hill Drive was completed in 2024, these connecting cul de sacs will complete the work in that area.)

The plan: Milling will take place Monday and Tuesday and paving will begin Wednesday.

What’s Next?
Crews plan to move to Baldwin Acres and the Skymont neighborhoods next. Getting into Skymont is a priority so crews can give those streets a full curb-to-curb refresh following the extensive Columbia Gas pipeline replacement project. Work is starting in Hillcrest to give the utility crews the final time they need to completely wrap up in Skymont.

Unlike our spring paving schedule, fall paving is more unpredictable. It depends entirely on contractor availability and the weather. If temperatures drop too low, asphalt plants shut down for the season. Falling leaves complicate things as well.

We will keep you updated and release the next batch of streets as soon as they are locked in.

Thanks for your patience and please be on the lookout for crews.
