The ND Emergency Management Association recognized Kidder County Emergency Management with an Achievement Award for KC's 2026 full-scale active shooter exercise at the NDEMA's annual conference.
The exceptional engagement of KC's responders, the effective planning of the exercise planning team, and the participation of numerous outside organizations were key to creating an outstanding exercise whose success was noted at the state level.
The exercise planning and logistics were done "in house" by KCEM in cooperation with KC Public School, KC Ambulance, Steele VFD, NDDES, and NDSECC (State Radio). Designing the exercise in-house built expertise within Kidder County, created an exercise "tailor-made" for KC, and saved taxpayer money by avoiding employing costly contractors to put on the exercise.
