Frederick County Public Schools Social Media Terms and Conditions

The purpose of the Frederick County Public Schools (“FCPS”) official social media platforms is to provide information about our schools and public education generally in a timely and efficient manner. The following social media terms and conditions apply to any official FCPS social media page, including official social media pages of any of its schools. For all posts made on and after September 20, 2024: Beginning September 20, 2024, FCPS official social media platforms will no longer allow commenting on posts. In the event a post inadvertently allows comments, once staff is aware the commenting capability will be removed as well as any comments that are made on the post. For any comments made on posts that were posted before September 20, 2024: In the event that comments are made to posts that were posted prior to September 20, 2024, those comments will be reviewed and removed, if necessary, pursuant to the below terms. Please note that official FCPS social media pages may not be regularly monitored and FCPS encourages anyone with specific questions or concerns involving a school matter to contact their school principal or the Director of Media and Communications (“Director”). Public comments expressed on FCPS social media pages do not reflect the opinions and position of the Frederick County School Board, FCPS, and its schools, officers and employees. Comment Removal
Recognizing that students use and access official FCPS social media platforms, FCPS expects those who engage with FCPS social media platforms to serve as role models to students and engage in civil, appropriate commentary. As a result, FCPS reserves the right to remove comments made on FCPS posts that contain:

-Conduct that violates the terms and conditions of the applicable social media platform (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
-Illegal conduct or encouragement of illegal activity
-Content that promotes, fosters, or perpetuates prohibited discrimination, harassment, and/or retaliation
-Conduct that is threatening, inciting, harassing, or bullying
-Content that is unrelated to the original FCPS post
-Content that violates a legal ownership interest of any other party, such as copyright or trademark infringement
-Information that is false
-Content that compromises the safety or security of FCPS, any of its schools, staff, or students
-Personnel information, individually identifiable student information, or other confidential material
-Profane language or content
-Promotions of services or products
-Promotions of political candidates or organizations
-Sexual harassment or sexual content
-Solicitations of commerce or advertisements including promotion or endorsement
-Spam or comments that include links to external online sites
-Conduct that is otherwise in violation of School Board policies or that reasonably may lead to the substantial disruption of or material interference with FCPS school operations

Comments in violation of these terms and conditions may be removed from the applicable FCPS official social media platform. Continued or egregious violations may prompt FCPS to further restrict an individual’s commenting on official FCPS social media platforms. FCPS will not remove content simply because it disagrees with the user’s viewpoint or the user criticizes FCPS. Comment Removal Procedure
The FCPS social media platforms are administered by designated staff. When designated staff suspect a violation of these terms and conditions, the Director will be notified and will review and authorize removal of a comment when appropriate. Upon finding a violation, the Director will make a reasonable effort to contact the individual commenter to give notice of the violation and the removal of their commentary. Appeals regarding the Director’s decision to remove a comment or to take further action for repeated violations of these terms and conditions may be submitted via e-mail to the Assistant Superintendent for Administration within two calendar days. Notices
Individuals should be aware that their comments may be subject to the Virginia Freedom of Information Act and records retention requirements. FCPS may be obligated to retain public comments in its records and/or disclose the information if requested. Official FCPS Social Media Pages include, but are not limited to, those pages identified on the FCPS website.

The Scholastic Book Fair Family Night is this Thursday, October 15, from 4-7 PM in the Bass-Hoover library.

The clear bag policy applies to this event. The clear bag policy expectations are listed below.

We hope to see you there!

Clear Bag Expectation
Jul 31 2026 5:30 PM
FCPS has a clear bag expectation for all events occurring after school hours at elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as events hosted by FCPS at off-site locations. This expectation is intended to enhance safety and security for students, staff, and visitors attending school events.

This expectation applies to all spectators, including students, visitors, and FCPS personnel who are not working the event. It does not apply to individuals visiting campuses for night school programs.

Allowed Bags
Attendees may bring the following types of bags into after-school events:

Clear bags: Must be fully transparent from all angles and no larger than 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches. A small logo or marker is permitted provided it does not obscure the contents of the bag.
Small wallets, wristlets, or clutch bags: Non-clear bags no larger than 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches.
Medical bags: Bags containing prescribed medical supplies are permitted and may be inspected separately.
Diaper bags: Permitted when attending with a child and subject to separate inspection.
Participant bags: Equipment bags carried by students participating in the event, such as athletes, cheerleaders, or band members. These may also be inspected separately.
Prohibited Bags
The following items will not be allowed:

Any bag exceeding the size limitations listed above, including clear bags.
Backpacks, purses, camera cases, and cinch bags that are not clear.
Large tote bags, coolers, and duffle bags.
Tinted, colored, patterned, or mesh bags that fully obscure the contents.
Entry Procedures
All bags will be screened upon entry to after-school events. School principals or their designees will oversee the screening process.

If a guest arrives with a bag that does not meet the requirements, they will be asked to return the bag to their vehicle before entering the event. Spectators bringing items such as seats, umbrellas, blankets, or strollers should carry these items visibly through the screening area, where they may be inspected separately.

FCPS reserves the right to refuse entry to an event due to safety concerns and may exercise discretion in permitting bags that do not meet the requirements but are reasonably necessary.

We appreciate the cooperation of our families and community members as we implement this safety measure to support a secure environment at school events.
