Selden VFD The Selden Volunteer Fire Department is a rural fire department located in Erath County, Texas. We do not currently have a water tender.

Our Mission: We are dedicated to protecting life, property, and the environment by providing emergency response in the community of Selden, Texas. Our Vision: We will maintain aggressive, offensive fire fighting tactics. Support a safe and healthy workplace that is open to new innovations. Provide emergency response services and environmental protection. Establish a strong community relations program, particularly in the area of the fire, and prevention, public education, injury prevention, and emergency preparedness. Our Values: Putting People First with Pride, Honor, and Integrity. Our History
The Selden Volunteer Fire Department was formed in 1984 to fill a gap in fire response in southern Erath County, Texas. Prior to our founding any fire response had to come from the City of Stephenville, nearly 10 miles away. Many grass fires were simply not responded to at all, or were put out by local farmers and residents. Following a house fire that destroyed a family home in 1983 a group of residents got together and in 1984 formed the Selden Volunteer Fire Department. The first fire station was a garage behind the Selden Community Center and our only equipment was second hand. Over the years the department has grown to 15 regular members and we have been able to build a larger, 4-bay fire station. Our equipment consists of 1 Structure Fire/Rescue Engine, 2 small brush truck and larger brush engine. We are sustained financially by the generous donations of the surrounding community and the ability to leverage equipment grants. Additionally we receive a small stipend from the county to assist with fuel costs. The Selden Volunteer Fire Department is your local fire department. All of our members live locally, so each and every time we go on a call it is truly neighbors helping neighbors!

Who else has whiplash from the burn ban being on again, off again?!?! We sure do. This morning the County Commisioners along with the Fire Marshal lifted the ban indefinitely. Soooooo, yes you can burn 🔥. As always- call the Sheriff's Office first at 254-965-3228, supervise your burn pile and have a way to put it out. Thanks!

BURN BAN (TEMPORARILY) LIFTED. The Erath County Judge - Brandon J. Huckabee has determined that the conditions that caused the burn ban are no longer present in Erath County, so the burn ban has been TEMPORARILY lifted until Monday, October 19th at 9:00 am. If you need to burn, please call the Erath County Sheriff's Office at 254-965-3338 and let them know you'll be burning. Mainly so we don't get called out for a false alarm/legal burn.
NOTE- the judge can only lift the ban for 72 hours, after that the County Commissioners have to vote on it.

Yup, it rained. Nope, the burn ban isn't lifted. (At least not yet)

🇺🇸 LINE OF DUTY DEATH | TEXAS

Firefighter Rick Joseph Fuentes, 26
Buckholts Volunteer Fire Department
Buckholts, Texas

The United States Honor Flag and The Honor Network extend our deepest condolences following the tragic line-of-duty death of Firefighter Rick Joseph Fuentes.

Firefighter Fuentes lost his life when the fire apparatus he was operating left the roadway and overturned on FM 437 near Holland, Texas, while responding to a vehicle and grass fire.

At just 26 years old, Firefighter Fuentes made the ultimate sacrifice while answering the call to serve his community.

We stand with the Buckholts Volunteer Fire Department, his family, fellow firefighters, and the entire Milam County community during this difficult time.

His service will not be forgotten. His sacrifice will always be honored.

Rest easy, Firefighter Fuentes. We have the watch from here.

🇺🇸 One Flag. One Nation. All Heroes.

Okay, let's talk burn ban. The burn ban is back on as of 9:00 am today. Erath County Judge - Brandon J. Huckabee lifted it for 72 hours, which is all he can do by law. The county commissioners will be re-addressing the issue this week and will make a decision based on fuel moisture content, the amount of rain we've received on average county wide and future weather predictions. Until that happens- NO BURNING!

Training never stops. This afternoon the Selden VFD had first aid, CPR and bleeding control training. Although we are not a traditional Emergency Medical Agency, as firefighters we are often called to assist the medics on the ambulances in the county or more often- we encounter folks injured in traffic collisions or farming accidents. Statistics show that early CPR and AED intervention greatly increases the chances of survival for cardiac patients and a person that is suffering from heavy bleeding can die within minutes.
