September is Library Card Sign-up Month, so it’s a great time to visit your local library and discover what your card has to offer. Even if you're not a big reader, the library is for YOU. Already have a card? Tell a friend! 💬

You might be surprised by all the things you can do with a library card. Here are just a few:

✅ Events, programs, activities, and more for all ages and interests.

✅ Free tutoring for K–12, college, and beyond, plus resume help, interview prep, and other career support through Tutor.com.

✅ Free family history research with Ancestry Library Edition, available for use in the library.

✅ Useful and unexpected items to borrow, like a GoPro HERO11, Meta Quest 2, Nintendo Classic Mini, Logitech Blue Yeti microphone, and more.

✅ Millions of digital books, audiobooks, magazines, comics, manga, movies, music, and more, alongside your library’s physical collection. Access digital resources from your phone, tablet, e-reader, or computer. Some libraries also offer streaming services like Hoopla and Kanopy for watching movies and shows on your TV at home!

✅ Hundreds of databases and e-resources on topics from auto repair to arts and crafts.

✅ Free or discounted admission to museums, parks, and more through the Michigan Activity Pass (miactivitypass.org).

📱 Have you downloaded your library’s app yet?

If your library uses SLC’s shared system (most libraries in Macomb County and Troy!), SLC Libraries Mobile makes it easy to browse the catalog, place holds, renew materials, register for events, manage your account, and more.

🔎 Search your app store for “SLC Libraries Mobile”

Did you know that if your library uses SLC’s shared system, you can borrow from 15 additional partner libraries on Libby? And now, borrowing from those libraries just got easier!

Partner libraries are now automatically linked to your home library card. When you search for an item, Libby automatically checks its availability across all libraries in the lending partnership. 🎉

UPDATE: The upgrade is complete and the system is back up as of 10:40a.m. Thanks again for your patience!

Heads up: Some library services will be temporarily unavailable while we complete scheduled upgrades and bug fixes to Polaris, our library system software, on Thursday, Aug. 13.

We expect the upgrade to be completed by 9 a.m., but downtime could last longer if any unexpected issues arise.

Everything should be up and running by the time most libraries open for the day. However, if you’re an early bird, you may not be able to access the catalog, read ebooks in Libby/OverDrive, or use Hoopla, Kanopy, Tutor.com, and some other databases until then.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We’ll update this post when the system is back up.
