The City of Stevens Point is discussing data center development tonight and YOU NEED to be there. Join the students of The Progressive Action Organization of UW-Stevens Point at 5:30 pm at the new UWSP Chemistry and Biology Building room 165 to walk together to the meeting room at the Police department. This agenda item is to discuss the possibility of a moratorium, or to weigh whether or not the City wants a data center, so we have to tell them loud and clear NO DATA CENTERS IN POINT.

But we can't stop there, we should push for the city to champion a massive green new union jobs program in coordination with other cities and regions. We do need jobs, but they should be for building green energy infrastructure!

Let's not limit ourselves from the start. Many cities have won a 12 month moratorium, which is huge, but we should push for an indefinite moratorium.

Data centers are polluting, they destroy ecosystems, they damage human health, they heat the surrounding area by over 10 degrees, they cause increased energy costs and demand that sometimes outpace what is actually available leading to blackouts, and they are part of the economic AI bubble that will burst leaving us with the husk of a data center facility. They usually only create 15-20 long-term jobs, and the shortterm jobs they do create are usually out of state labor that is pitted against the community when really we should all be angry at the companies chasing this fake profit

Do your part, come speak tonight!

We can’t sit out of the 2026 Midterm elections, but we also don’t have to follow along with the standard “vote blue no matter who” arguments rolled out every election. We need to demand that any elected representative fight for us, and that if they won’t support us then we won’t support them. Join organizers from across WI in democratically deciding on demands and in the next steps needed to fight for working families!

* We Need Green Jobs, Not Data Centers!

* Fully Fund Community Services! Community Control of the Police Budget!

* We Need Inclusive Medicare for All!

* Fund Public Schools, Not Private Institutions!

* Sovereign Nations Deserve Sovereign Rights!

* Fight Against the Attacks on all Working and Oppressed People!

* Elected Officials Must Represent Their Constituency

Francesca Hong's razor thin defeat after a coordinated establishment crush can't be paved over with calls for unity. David Crowley has shown that he is fully bought off by his corporate backers - he says he wants the support of Fran’s base, but is refusing to adopt any the most popular of Fran's program, whether it’s the call for an AI data center development moratorium, eliminating the anti-public school idea of "school choice," and taxing the rich to fund necessary public services like housing and healthcare.

Crowley and the rest of the corporate Democratic Party figures expect us all to fall in line without meaningfully budging on a single point, because for them the real point of running was not to beat Tom Tiffany and the right wing, but to crush the left wing insurgency within the Democratic Party before it could grow too powerful to control. We have to break the cycle of "vote blue no matter who” - we don’t have to make the same choice every couple years between two candidates who won’t commit to fighting for us and the changes we need made! We can fight back for more, but we need to get organized.

Activists all across Wisconsin are coming together to democratically vote on a list of core demands and work to continue the fight through November and beyond, and we need YOUR help! We need to put a cohesive message out that any politician who expects our vote has to actually earn it.

Join other organizers from across the state for the Statewide Organizing Conference in Stevens Point, where volunteers for the Francesca Hong campaign helped to create one of the strongest regional turnouts in Wisconsin. More details to come, including a proposed program to be discussed, debated, and voted on. If you are interested in helping organize this conference, either as an individual or an organization, please reach out!

Two Zoom meetings coming up soon! Links in comments.

Join us on Sept 9 with the rest of the Midwest Regional Branch of Socialist Alternative to discuss how revolutionary socialism is necessary to fight back against capitalist state terror, repression, war, and destruction. Cities from across the Midwest will be coming together to talk about what fighting back has looked like for them, and what next steps we need to take.

On Sept 10, we'll be meeting with Jonathan Rosenblum to discuss his book "We're Coming For You and Your Rotten System." This covers the 10+ years of organizing around former Socialist Alternative member Kshama Sawant Seattle City Council office seat, and how organizers everywhere need to dig into the lessons for electoral campaigns now. This is especially important for us in Wisconsin after Francesca Hong's incredibly narrow loss.

In the leadup to the trial of the Minnesota 15, and in response to the recent news of DHS’ investigation into unions and left groups, the worst thing we could do would be to slink into the shadows and shy away from a public fight. The courts are the capitalist state’s preferred terrain. We need to take the fight into our domain: the streets.

Socialist Alternative is actively participating in the Minnesota 15 defense campaign and has begun building the defense campaign in cities across the country, and even internationally. This movement must not be limited to already-existing activists but include all working-class people and students outraged at ICE’s barbarity and Trump’s attacks on our democratic right to protest and strike. This approach was also the key to defeating Operation Metro Surge.

The defense campaign will be organizing a national day of action this fall and Socialist Alternative urges all progressive and working-class organizations to help build for it once a date is announced. You can follow both the official campaign as well as Socialist Alternative’s activity within it on Instagram. If your union, immigrant rights organization, student group, or other organization would like to get involved with this fight, message us on Instagram or email at [email protected].

* Drop the charges on the Minnesota 15 and all anti-ICE protesters!
* Defend the right to protest, organize, and strike!
* Abolish ICE to fund housing, schools, and healthcare!

After ICE invaded Minnesota with 4,000 agents last winter, the Twin Cities working class responded with a mass movement of rapid response networks and a 350,000-strong citywide general strike. It remains the high point of struggle so far under Trump’s second term and forced the wannabe dictator’...

Socialist Alternative calls for no support and no vote for the Crowley campaign in the November election. It’s possible Crowley will use some progressive rhetoric to win over Fran’s supporters, but we should soberly recognize that this would be discarded at earliest convenience. If the campaigning efforts for Fran are to mean anything, we must move beyond Fran’s concession with an approach that will be most effective at fighting for the demands of her campaign: that means building a politically independent working-class movement on the foundation her campaign created. We must sharpen the program to include a fight for Medicare for All, to expand beyond just a one-year moratorium on AI data center development and instead fight for new union jobs developing sustainable energy infrastructure, and to boldly break from the failed strategy of reforming the Democratic Party.

Building a movement independent from the capitalist parties that care more about their donors than they do our livelihoods is the most effective fightback against Trump’s reactionary regime. By failing to meet the needs of working people, the corporate Democratic Party has paved the way for Trump. Central Wisconsin Socialist Alternative is calling a meeting on August 19 in Stevens Point, WI., the heart of a region that organized and voted most strongly for Francesca Hong. We will be presenting demands that strengthen some of the best points that drew people to Fran in the first place and escalate the struggle to bring in broader layers of the working class.

Join us August 19th (location TBA) to debate next steps and what it will take to win Wisconsin back for working people. Organizations interested in cosponsoring please reach out directly.

Crowley's razor-thin win has been celebrated by many political commentators as a significant defeat for the insurgent progressive wave within the Democratic Party this year, whose notable primary victories include self-described socialists in New York City and Colorado, as well as progressive Democrat Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan. Such claims can erase neither the deep political crisis of the Democratic Party establishment whose do-nothing approach has lost the confidence of countless workers, nor the strong appeal of progressive politics demonstrated by Fran’s mere 0.5% margin of loss.

Her campaign’s 7,000+ active volunteers and 300,000+ voters are now faced with the question of how to continue the fight for the progressive politics that brought them to the campaign in the first place, and what to do in the general election. Fran’s call is for her supporters to get behind Crowley in the fight for what she refers to as a “trifecta” in the state: Democratic Party control in the state assembly, senate, and governor’s office. Already, the Crowley campaign has called for a “Unity Brunch,” with Fran and other Democratic Party figures joining for a rally to unite behind the machine that spent over $7,200,000 to continue the sad, centrist legacy of Governor Tony Evers.

It is a serious mistake for Fran to direct the anti-corporate momentum she helped build into the same Democratic Party establishment that opposed her. While some of her base may feel compelled to support Crowley to defeat the right, or even hope that Crowley can be pushed to the left to unify the vote, this is nothing more than a dead end for her progressive policies that corporate Democrats will refuse to accept. This movement must organize itself beyond the limitations Fran is imposing on it and give no support to Crowley’s bid for governor.

SAME STRUGGLE, SAME FIGHT | UNITE TO BUILD A SOCIALIST WORLD

Join us to discuss how winning LGBTQ liberation, Black liberation, abolishing ICE, and ending imperialist war means overthrowing the global capitalist system. We need a new working class party and socialist revolution!

With DSA members running and winning primaries in the Democratic Party, we need to have a clear understanding of the dangers and limitations this approach entails. We need to win working class power, but not in a capitalist party. Organizers and socialists need to be building independent political power for our class. Learn more about what that looks like nationally and internationally!
