Celebrate your freedoms! Read a book...

Once again, we’ve reached the time of year when institutions all throughout America recognize the importance of our public libraries in maintaining the freedoms guaranteed to us in our founding documents. Everyone in the United States has the right to the freedom of speech, which includes the freedom to read. To highlight this right, we’ve gathered a wide collection of books that have been censored by others over the years, so you can decide for yourself whether or not you would like to read them. This display will be up at the Stevens Point Branch for the entire month of October, completely free for your browsing. No matter what is said or done by others across the country, these books are not banned here.

It is the Library’s goal to provide the Portage County community with a collection of Library materials that reflects a wide range of views, expressions, opinions and interests. Kudos to Mike and Ron from Bill Cook Chapter IWLA for decades of volunteering to connect youth with nature. They were out bright and early this morning with the young learners from St. Paul Lutheran exploring water quality on the Isherwood Lateral. Wide buffers of permanent vegetated cover and trees protects the stream and its inhabitants.

Productive meeting Monday night with the Portage County unit of the Wisconsin Towns Association out in Grant. Their small town hall is outfitted with solar panels to help reduce the town's energy bill. Smart!
