If you’re a crime fiction fan, you’re probably familiar with many of the authors on this display. But did you know that they are often counted as writing for a specific sub-genre of crime fiction? This display brings together books from a wide variety of Scandinavian authors all writing the gritty and tense Nordic Noir style. Commonly characterized by straightforward language, Nordic settings, and jaded police officers, these books offer an interesting spin on the traditional crime fiction novel. Whether you already love books by the likes of Jo Nesbø and Arnaldur Indriðason or you’re trying out this genre for the very first time, this display at the Stevens Point branch has all you need in order to immerse yourself in some nail-biting Nordic Noir.

This week's Portage County Public Library Staff Pick is "Everybody's Fly" by Fab 5 Freddy, Mark Rozzo, et al.

"Everybody’s Fly is a fast-moving, all-access pass to Fab’s extraordinary life—one that begins in a book- and jazz-filled Brooklyn home and takes us deep into New York's creative explosions from the 1970s to the 1990s. He didn’t just shape culture, he synthesized it—from highbrow to street, Harlem to SoHo, punk to rap, Warhol to Wild Style. Whether he’s skipping school to wander MoMA, painting subway cars that became moving masterpieces, or bringing hip-hop to downtown clubs for the first time, Freddy’s genius has always been in seeing what others couldn’t—until he made them see it too.

Vibrant, rhapsodic, and compulsively readable, Everybody’s Fly is a love letter to the art of seeing, a fascinating account of an inimitable creative life, and a celebration of what it means to shape culture." - Publisher.

Many of our Libby users are asking about your PINs/passwords. For our PCPL cardholders, it's your 4-digit birthday w/a 2-digit month and 2-digit day.
Is today your birthday? Well, happy birthday! But also, your PIN is 1013. How about Halloween? Your PIN would be 1031. Try with your own birthday and let us know if that doesn't work. Sorry for the interruption!
