It's Open Access Week!

This year's theme, "The Cost of Knowledge," asks an important question: How much does it cost to make scholarly research freely available?

While open access removes paywalls for readers, publishing research can come with a hefty price tag. What is known as APCs, or Article Processing Charges, can cost thousands of dollars per article.

The good news? We participate in agreements with several academic publishers, including Wiley, that cover publishing fees for eligible UWSP authors, helping our faculty share their research around the world.

Learn more about open access and how we support our researchers in our latest blog post.

Did you know there’s a whole subgenre of literature devoted to all things “cozy”? Yep! Cozy fantasy, cozy romance, and even cozy horror (which seems like an oxymoron).

Since it’s fall break today, why not get into the cozy spirit? Grab a coffee from the DUC, head up to the library’s 2nd floor, and curl up in one of our comfy chairs with one of these titles. 😊

You’ll find these cozy titles and more in our Leisure Reading collection, organized by author’s last name.

Happy cozy reading!

The Library is open regular hours during Fall Break, October 16–18! Stop by, browse our leisure reading collection, or borrow a board game for some downtime. You'll find both on the 2nd floor. Enjoy!

Prof. Dave Dettman's LRES 150 class is having a blast in the Archives today! A little time away from screens and computers to explore some of the historical materials in our Archives collections.

Students, you should take this class! "LRES 150: Critical Approaches to Information Research," is a 3-credit course offered in both fall and spring. You'll explore information and research in new ways, have some fun, and we think you'll have a pretty cool professor, too!

Woohoo! 🎉 Mindy told the library staff that we can stop celebrating her Wisconsin Library Association/Demco Librarian of the Year award, but we reminded her that she's Librarian of the YEAR, which means we have an entire year to celebrate! 😄

Thank you, Newsline 9, for highlighting Mindy's well-deserved award and upcoming ceremony!

Mindy King, director of the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point Libraries, has been named the 2026 Wisconsin Library Association/DEMCO Librarian of the Year.

Well, well, well. Look who's come to town.

With your shiny silver coat and that ridiculous oversized hat.

You certainly know how to make an entrance.

I've been here for years, quietly doing my duty, tucked away in the cabinetry of the Library Suite. A humble workhorse. Dependable. Unassuming. Never asking for attention.

And then there's you. All polished chrome and fancy, looking like you just stepped out of a stapler fashion magazine, Haute Staplure.

There's plenty of paper to go around.

But we'll see who gets called upon when there's a 40-page booklet to staple.

The papers will decide.

The papers always know.
