Why we test the fire hydrants…

Fire hydrants are tested to measure available water pressure, verify flow rates, and ensure the municipal water distribution system can support emergency firefighting operations.

Good Morning

The Fire Department will begin testing fire hydrants testing today, here’s what you might experience inside your home..

• Temporary drops in water pressure: Your home's water pressure may dip while hydrants are flowing nearby.
• Discolored or rusty water: Stirred-up mineral deposits and rust in the main water lines can cause your tap water to look brown, yellow, or cloudy.
• Air in the pipes: You may hear a sputtering sound or see bursts of air when you first turn on a faucet or flush a toilet after the test.

What You Should Do

• Avoid using hot water: If you notice discolored water, do not run your hot water tap. This pulls sediment into your hot water tank, where it is hard to flush out.
• Run cold tap water: Let your main cold water faucet (like an outdoor spigot or basement sink) run for a few minutes until the water turns clear again.
• Check your laundry: Avoid washing white or light-colored clothes while testing is happening or right afterward until you confirm your tap water is running clear.

If a problem persists, please contact Village Hall at 708-749-4400.

🍂🎃 Keep Fall Decorations Fun — and Fire Safe! 🎃🍂

Fall decorations can make your home feel festive, but some can also create fire hazards. Keep decorations away from heat sources, open flames and exits, and never block doors or escape routes. If you're using candles, consider flameless alternatives and always keep them away from anything that can burn.

As you decorate for the season, take a few extra seconds to make sure your fall décor doesn't create a fire risk. Keep it festive. Keep it safe. 🔥🚒
