Dear Friend of Wreaths Across America at Fairlawn Cemetery,

Fairlawn Cemetery will again host Wreaths Across America on Saturday, December 14 at 11:00 a.m. This has become a Stillwater tradition. This moving ceremony recognizes all the veterans who are buried at Fairlawn by the placing of a wreath on the grave of each veteran. However, we need your financial support in order to insure that each of our approximately 1500 veterans receive a wreath. The wreaths are now $17 each so a donation of $150 would provide almost 9 wreaths, a donation of $300 would provide 18 wreaths, etc.

We hope that you will consider sponsoring. All sponsors will be listed in the official program. Information for sponsorship is listed below.

Best,

Fairlawn Cemetery celebrates new columbarium 02/22/2022

A dream come true, our columbarium has been installed and it is beautiful! We welcome you to come to see it in person. Thank you to everyone that made this possible especially the volunteers, the board of directors, and the donors!

Fairlawn Cemetery celebrates new columbarium For eight years, board members at Fairlawn Cemetery raised funds to create a space where families can gather to honor their loved ones.

THANK YOU for your concern for Fairlawn, Stillwater’s landmark of peace and rest for our families since at least 1886. Fairlawn gets no income from any public source – not the city, county, nor state. We have to cash-flow our beloved cemetery with lot sales and grave openings. To make improvements and to secure Fairlawn’s future, we provide several options for tax-exempt donations. If you could consider helping in any of these ways, we would be VERY, VERY grateful!
1) Our new columbarium (for cremation) will be one of the finest! Donations are needed for landscaping, security, and other additions.
2) “Friends of Fairlawn” is comprised of individuals who annually give $15 for an individual membership, or $25 for a family membership, or $150 for an organizational membership to support Fairlawn.
3) “Wreaths Across America” is held at Fairlawn every December simultaneously with the national service at Arlington National Cemetery. We honor every veteran’s grave at Fairlawn with a live Balsam wreath, saying their name aloud and thanking them for their service as each wreath is respectfully placed. Individual wreaths are only $15 each. Sponsorships are $300, $500, $1,000, $1,500, and $2,000, with credit given for sponsorships in the printed program.
4) Fairlawn VERY much needs a larger and more efficient shop building – estimated cost $80,000+.
5) A beautiful Memorial Chapel could replace the existing shop. This facility could not only house the cemetery offices and provide a chapel for memorial services, but it could host bereavement meals, reunions, meetings, Veterans Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Wreaths Across America, etc. Perhaps your family might wish to leave a legacy forever by financing this tax exempt project in your family’s name?
6) As you notice, the roads at Fairlawn badly need to be widened and resurfaced. Additional landscaping would add beauty!
7) We need donations for on-going expenses (mowing, water, monument repair, fill potholes, etc).

Donations may be mailed to: Fairlawn Cemetery, PO Box 1483, Stillwater, OK 74076. Fairlawn phone: 405-372-8603 or online https://fairlawnstillwater.org/

Come to see the five gorgeous grey granite pieces of Fairlawn’s new columbarium that are here and ready to be permanently placed in the Columbarium Garden next month!!!

Please know that pre-construction “niches” (spaces in the columbarium that will hold two urns) are discounted 20% until the construction is finished in about 60 days.

Ten percent of the niches in the central section are already sold; so, if this beautiful final resting place appeals to your family, it is doubtful that you can get a better price anywhere. Come ASAP and plan for your family with Sexton Mike Moody.

Please share with others the news of this wonderful opportunity!

An update from Fairlawn Cemetery Preservation Society President Lou Watkins:

The virus isn’t done with us yet, and relaxing social distancing may well compound the problem.

Soooo, it grieves me to pass on this information:

Out of prudence, we will NOT hold our Fairlawn Cemetery Preservation Society meeting next Monday. Our meeting room is small, and most of us are in that “vulnerable” age group.

We will NOT be hosting fundraiser dinners at local restaurants for Wreaths Across America at Fairlawn until we see better data.

Only if the virus infections significantly ease up in our region will the FCPS meet in July.

A decision also will be made soon regarding holding our Annual Meeting now set for July 28.

I am so sorry to convey this information, but it is the right thing to do. The effects of this pandemic on support for Fairlawn and for Wreaths Across America at Fairlawn are very worrisome for me, but I do know that words are inadequate to express how much I and the other members of the Fairlawn Board appreciate each of you. You have been the backbone of our beloved cemetery, ensuring its present beauty and preserving its future. Hopefully, our “old normal” will return soon!!!! Stay tuned, and stay safe!
