Auburn University's Board of Trustees dissolved the campus university (faculty) senate in June 2026, prompting a protest by over 100 faculty and community members in September 2026.

Witte, a professor of psychology at Auburn and one of the organizers of the event, said the dissolution of the faculty senate – called the university senate at Auburn – felt like a message that faculty was no longer part of the Auburn family. Witte was a university senator from 2015 to 2021.

“I always thought faculty were part of that family,” she said in an interview Wednesday. “It’s just the faculty that don’t have a representative body anymore. Why is that? Are we not part of the Auburn family?”

A transgender professor who was denied a promotion more than a decade ago must be reinstated with tenure at Southeastern Oklahoma State University because the school discriminated against her, a federal court ruled this week.

Rachel Tudor, who was fired from the university in 2011, won a landmark civil rights discrimination case in 2017 in which a jury awarded her more than $1 million in damages.

A panel of three federal judges determined Rachel Tudor deserves her old job as a tenured-track professor at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has ordered Southeastern Oklahoma State University to reinstate with tenure a transgender professor who was fired after an administrator said her “lifestyle” offended
