With its black mask, soft coloring and bright yellow tail tip, the cedar waxwing is a bird worth keeping an eye out for! 🐦

Want to make your yard more welcoming for their arrival in November? Trees and shrubs that produce berries, such as serviceberry, elderberry and dogwood, can provide both food and shelter. You can also add a birdbath to give them a place to drink and bathe.

Congratulations to Dr. Brian Arnall, OSU Extension precision nutrient management specialist, on receiving the 2026 Southern Region Excellence in Extension Award from USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture, Cooperative Extension and the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities!

For nearly two decades, Arnall has helped farmers and ranchers improve profitability, use nutrients more efficiently and protect natural resources through precision agriculture. This recognition celebrates his commitment to practical, science-based solutions that support Oklahoma agriculture.

Restorative vs. Maintenance Burns... what's the difference? 🔥

The first few prescribed burns on a piece of land are often restorative burns. They help reclaim areas that have gone a long time without fire and can be especially challenging when eastern redcedars have become established. Once the land reaches its management goals, regular maintenance burns help maintain them by controlling unwanted woody growth and supporting the native plant community.
