🫖 A little stitching. A little sipping. A LOT of memories. 🧵

Our Chicken Scratch Embroidery Tea Party is coming, and we’d love to see families join us! Only one week left to register.

Make it a special afternoon with loved ones — grandparents and grandkids, parents and children, siblings or friends. You’ll learn a traditional embroidery technique, create a project together and enjoy tea and refreshments.

🍂 Persimmons: A Little Fall Sweetness (When You Know They’re Ripe!) 🍂

Ever bitten into an unripe persimmon? That mouth-puckering surprise is one you won’t forget! 😬

The American persimmon (Diospyros virginiana) is well suited to Oklahoma and offers more than just sweet fall fruit. Its glossy leaves and bright orange fruit add beauty to the landscape, while providing food for birds and other wildlife.

Thinking about planting a persimmon tree? Keep these tips in mind:
- Choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil and plenty of room to grow.
- Water young trees regularly while their roots establish, and mulch to conserve moisture.
- Some varieties need a nearby pollen source to produce fruit, so check with your nursery before buying.
- Asian persimmons generally produce larger fruit but are less cold-hardy than American varieties.

The secret to enjoying persimmons? Patience! American persimmons need to become fully soft before eating. Their orange color alone doesn't mean they're ripe, and contrary to popular belief, they don't need a frost to become sweet. As the fruit ripens naturally, the tannins responsible for that puckering sensation decrease.

With a little planning, persimmons can add a unique and delicious fall tradition to your Oklahoma landscape for years to come!

❄️ Don’t let the first freeze catch your sprayer off guard! ❄️

After a long stretch of warm weather, cooler temperatures are finally on the way. That means it’s time to start thinking about winterizing your spraying equipment!

A little time spent cleaning and preparing your equipment now can help prevent freeze damage, reduce costly repairs and extend the life of your sprayer.

Before winter sets in:
• Wear the proper PPE and follow pesticide label requirements when cleaning equipment.
• Rinse the tank with clean water and run water through the boom, nozzles, recirculation and agitation systems.
• Drain the tank and disconnect low hoses to remove trapped water.
• Use compressed air to clear hard-to-drain lines when appropriate for your equipment.
• Protect the pump and plumbing with the manufacturer-recommended method or appropriate antifreeze.
• Remove and clean pump filters, nozzle screens, tips and bodies.
• Replace cracked, worn or damaged nozzles and other components.
• Check pressure gauges and store them in a protected location if they aren't rated for freezing temperatures.
• Inspect hoses, fittings, clamps, seals and O-rings for damage.
• Give the outside of the sprayer a good cleaning to remove dirt and chemical residue.
• Store the sprayer on level ground and under cover if possible.

🚜 Don’t forget the small stuff! ATV sprayers, spot sprayers and other application equipment can also hold water in pumps, hoses, filters and nozzles, and that water can cause freeze damage.

A little preparation now can save you time, money and headaches next spraying season. Take care of your equipment now so it’s ready to go when you need it!

🏠 Fall Home Safety Check: Is Your Home Ready for Cooler Weather? 🏠

Before you crank up the heat, cozy up by the fireplace and settle in for the cooler months, take a few minutes to give your home a quick fall safety check.

From smoke detectors and space heaters to trip hazards and electrical cords, a little prevention now can help keep your home safe all season long.

Check out this fall home safety checklist and see what needs a little attention before winter arrives!
- Remove window air conditioners or put weatherproof covers on them.
- Check for leaky faucets and replace washers as necessary.
- Check/change HVAC filters.
- Inspect space heaters before use.
- Check electrical cords for damage.
- Check fire extinguishers.
- Clean/inspect fireplace and chimney.
