🚛 76 MPH + WRONG LANE = PUMP THE BRAKES!

While patrolling I-5, CHP Officer Michaelson observed this commercial truck traveling in the #2 lane (out of lane), passing other commercial vehicles at 76 miles per hour- that’s 21 MPH over the legal limit for this vehicle!

Here’s the important part: Commercial vehicles subject to California’s 55 MPH maximum speed limit must obey that limit, regardless of the higher posted speed limit for other traffic. Commercial vehicles are also restricted from certain lanes depending on the roadway.

There’s a reason for these restrictions. A fully loaded commercial vehicle can weigh tens of thousands of pounds and requires significantly more time and distance to stop. Add excessive speed, and the driver has even less time to react when traffic conditions suddenly change. The consequences of a collision can be severe.

The driver was stopped and cited.

We appreciate the professional drivers who safely move goods through our communities every day. Please stay in the appropriate lanes, obey the 55 MPH limit when required, and give yourself plenty of time and space to react.

🚔 Slow down. Stay alert. Stay in your lane. Arrive alive.

🦉 Look Hoo Was Saved Last Night! 👀

While on patrol, Officer Dowie encountered a feathered friend who found itself in need of a little assistance. Officer Dowie safely secured the owl and transported it back to the Stockton CHP office, where it was kept safe until Tri County Wildlife Care could take over and provide the care it needed.

At the CHP, you never know what the next call—or encounter—might bring. Whether it has two legs, four legs, or wings, our officers are always ready to lend a helping hand. 🦉🚔

Serving and protecting—even our feathered friends.

Today, we honor and remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the courage of the first responders who ran toward danger to help others. We remember those who never made it home, the families forever changed, and the bravery, sacrifice, and unity shown in the face of tragedy.

May we never forget their lives, their courage, and their sacrifice.

In a Rush to Get a Ticket? 118 MPH! 🏎️💨

A driver was recently stopped traveling 118 mph in a 65-mph zone on State Route 99. That’s 53 mph over the speed limit—and definitely not the kind of “fast” we want to see. At that speed, there is little room for error. A sudden lane change, stopped traffic, or unexpected roadway hazard can quickly turn deadly.

And speaking of FAST, drivers should be aware of California’s new Forwarded Actions for Speeding Tickets (FAST) program. CHP citations issued for speeds over 100 mph are automatically referred to the DMV Driver Safety Branch, regardless of the driver’s prior point history. The DMV review is separate from the court process and may result in the suspension or revocation of the driver’s license.

Slow down, buckle up, and drive to arrive, it's that simple. 🚔

📢 Holiday Enforcement Period (HEP) 📢

Got plans this weekend? So do we. 👀

The California Highway Patrol will be conducting a HEP starting TODAY, September 4, at 6:00 PM and continuing through Monday, September 7, at 11:59 PM. CHP officers will be out in full force across California, working to remove impaired drivers from the road.

If your plans this weekend include alcohol, plan ahead before you head out. Designate a sober driver, use a rideshare service, call a friend, or stay the night. Make the right choice-don’t drink and drive!

🏎️ 💨 Speeding Led to a Ride to Jail🚔

Officer Brown was on patrol when an orange coupe passed him at a dangerously high rate of speed. An enforcement stop was initiated, and the driver was ultimately arrested for reckless driving. The vehicle was also towed.

Excessive speed dramatically reduces your ability to react to changing traffic conditions, increases stopping distance, and turns split-second mistakes into potentially deadly crashes.

Your destination isn’t going anywhere. Slow down, drive responsibly, and get there safely.

🚨 WE WARNED YOU — SIDESHOWS HAVE CONSEQUENCES 🚨

A few weeks ago, we reminded the public about the serious consequences of participating in illegal sideshow activity. Unfortunately, not everyone listened.

Recently, a sideshow took place in our area, resulting in multiple arrests and vehicles being impounded.
Let this serve as another reminder: participating in illegal sideshow activity is not worth the risk. Drivers, participants, and others involved may face arrest, citations, vehicle impoundment, and other serious consequences.

These events are not harmless entertainment. Sideshows put participants, spectators, innocent motorists, and our communities at risk.

The California Highway Patrol, along with our allied law enforcement partners, will continue working to identify those involved and take appropriate enforcement action.

The message remains the same: Don’t participate. Don’t encourage it. Don’t put yourself or others at risk.

🚔 Drive responsibly. Make smart choices. Help us keep our roadways and communities safe.
