🏡🌾 The Nebraska Dept of Revenue has set the 2026 Nebraska Property Tax Credit Amounts to be applied to your 2026 property taxes. These property tax credits will provide property tax relief to Nebraska taxpayers.
How Does the Nebraska Property Tax Credit Work? Let’s Look at a hypothetical Frontier County Farm Example!
Imagine a Frontier County farm with a:
🏠 House that has a valuation of $250,000
🌾 Agricultural land with a valuation of $750,000
🏫 and this landowner will pay property taxes to their School district in the amount of $10,500.
The Nebraska property tax relief comes from three different calculations:
1️⃣ Credit on the House
The non-agricultural property tax credit is $118.87 for every $100,000 of taxable value.
$250,000 ÷ $100,000 = 2.5
2.5 × $118.87 = $297.18 credit
2️⃣ Credit on the Agricultural Land
Agricultural land receives a separate credit of $142.64 for every $100,000 of taxable value.
$750,000 ÷ $100,000 = 7.5
7.5 × $142.64 = $1,069.80 credit
3️⃣ School District Property Tax Relief Credit
There is also a credit based on the amount of qualifying school district property taxes paid.
In Frontier County, for 2026 the school tax credit percentage is going to be 0.2615208.
$10,500 × 0.2615208 = $2,745.97 credit
💰 Add the Credits Together
🏠 House credit: $297.18
🌾 Agricultural land credit: $1,069.80
🏫 School district credit: $2,745.97
Total property tax credits: $4,112.95
So, in this example, this Frontier County farm with $1 million in taxable property and $10,500 in qualifying school district taxes would receive approximately $4,112.95 in Nebraska property tax credits. This credit amount will show up on their 2026 tax statement and be deducted from the amount they owe.
📌 Note: This is a simplified example for educational purposes. Actual credits will vary from property to property.
