In response to the potential for minor flooding associated with expected heavy rain on Sunday, overnight parking restrictions in the 94th Street and Second Avenue "Free Lot" have been suspended until Monday night, October 12, 2026. Residents and visitors, especially those residing in areas prone to flooding during these events, should consider moving their vehicles to this "higher ground" or any other Borough lot (save the 80th Street Marina Lot which is prone to flooding during coastal storm events).

In addition, drivers of motor vehicles should not drive through floodwaters. Beyond the inherent risk to you and your vehicle and the potential fine associated with violations, driving through floodwaters causes harmful wakes which damage business and residential properties. The Borough, and our local business owners and residents, appreciate your consideration.

โš ๏ธ FLOOD-DAMAGED BATTERIES CAN BE DANGEROUS! โš ๏ธ
Floodwater and batteries are a hazardous combination. Batteries exposed to waterโ€”especially saltwaterโ€”can pose serious safety risks.
๐Ÿ”‹ Never plug in or recharge a battery that has been exposed to floodwater. Even if it appears dry, it may still be unsafe to use.
Please use caution and follow safety guidance when handling flood-damaged batteries.

COASTAL STORM & TIDAL FLOODING ADVISORY

The next high tide is expected at 8:57 PM, with a predicted tide height of approximately 7.8 feet. Often, flooding related to coastal storms peaks several hours after the high tide. This height is expected to result in moderate tidal flooding throughout the area and may lead to another closure of the 96th Street Bridge.

The Stone Harbor Police Department is urging residents, visitors, and motorists to remain off the roadways this evening during the next high tide unless travel is absolutely necessary.

If you do not need to remain in Stone Harbor, please plan accordingly and make the necessary arrangements before the next high tide.

Do not drive through flooded roadways. Driving through floodwaters causes wakes which can result in further damage to residential properties and local businesses.

The Borough of Stone Harbor is expected to experience moderate to major coastal flooding from today through Monday. In addition, there is a high wind warning in effect for our area with sustained winds estimated to be 30mph to 40mph with gusts reaching 60mph.

All residents and visitors are urged to take immediate precautions:
- Move vehicles and property to higher ground. Vehicles may be parked in any municipal parking lot for safety. Do not utilize the 80th Street Marina parking lot as this lot experiences tidal flooding.
-Avoid traveling during high tide cycles if possible. If you must travel during these times, utilize Second Avenue rather than Third Avenue which traditionally sees road flooding during these events.
- NEVER drive through flood waters. Doing so puts you and your vehicle at risk. Driving through flood waters also creates wakes which damage local businesses and properties. Those who drive through a flooded roadway (a roadway with a water depth of greater than six inches) may be cited for a violation of Borough Ordinance 520-2E.
- Secure outdoor furniture and decorations from expected high winds.
- Be prepared for power outages.
- Should you need assistance, contact the Stone Harbor Police Department at (609) 368-2111 for non-emergencies or 911 in case of an emergency.

Please remain alert and follow all official updates. See less

๐Ÿš”๐Ÿšจ Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over โ€” Summer 2026 ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿš”
The Stone Harbor Police Department is committed to combating impaired driving. From August 19, 2026, through September 7, 2026, our agency will place special emphasis on impaired driving enforcement as part of the statewide New Jersey โ€œDrive Sober or Get Pulled Overโ€ campaign.

During this mobilization, we will join law enforcement agencies throughout New Jersey in increased enforcement and public awareness efforts, in collaboration with the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety.

๐Ÿบ If you drink, donโ€™t drive.
๐Ÿš— Designate a sober driver.
๐Ÿ“ฑ Use a rideshare service or arrange for a safe ride home.
โš ๏ธ Never get behind the wheel while impaired.

Impaired driving is preventable, and one impaired driver can put countless lives at risk.

This campaign may have a designated time frame, but our commitment to keeping impaired drivers off the road is year-round.

Drive Sober. Get Home Safe.
