Lakeview Sailors Earn 2nd and 5th Place at Jr. Envirothon Competition!
Congratulations to our outstanding Lakeview Jr. Envirothon teams for their impressive performances at the Jr. Envirothon Competition, held on October 7, 2026, at the Trumbull County Conservation District in Cortland, Ohio!
Competing against 20 other teams, our students put their environmental knowledge, critical thinking, and teamwork to the test in five challenging categories: Animals, Soils, Watersheds, Aquatics, and Forestry.
Throughout the competition, students were challenged to apply their understanding of the natural world in a variety of ways. The Animals category tested their knowledge of wildlife identification, adaptations, habitats, and conservation. In Soils, students explored soil composition, characteristics, and the important role healthy soil plays in our ecosystems. The Watersheds category focused on water systems, drainage patterns, conservation, and human impacts on water quality. Aquatics challenged students to demonstrate their understanding of aquatic ecosystems, organisms, and water quality indicators. Finally, Forestry required students to apply their knowledge of tree identification, forest ecosystems, and sustainable forest management.
These categories required far more than simply memorizing facts. Students needed to observe carefully, analyze information, make connections, and work collaboratively to solve problems using their knowledge of environmental science.
SECOND PLACE TEAM
An incredible congratulation to Emma Zahniser, Penn Brocklehurst, Sawyer McAllister, and Anderson Becki, who earned an outstanding 2nd-place finish, missing first place by just THREE POINTS! Their exceptional performance in such a competitive field is a testament to their preparation, knowledge, and ability to work together as a team.
FIFTH PLACE TEAM
We are equally proud of Tanner Powers, Griffin Brocklehurst, C**t Hood, and Reese Seidle, who earned an impressive 5th-place finish! Their strong performance demonstrated their dedication to learning, their understanding of environmental concepts, and their ability to apply that knowledge in a competitive setting.
Participating in Jr. Envirothon provides students with valuable opportunities to extend their learning beyond the traditional classroom. It encourages environmental stewardship, scientific inquiry, teamwork, and a deeper appreciation for the interconnected systems that sustain our natural world.
We are incredibly proud of all eight students for embracing this challenge, representing Lakeview so well, and demonstrating what can be accomplished through curiosity, preparation, and collaboration.
Congratulations to both teams on an outstanding day of competition! You have made the Lakeview Sailors proud!
