The Streator Police Department invites the community to join Chief Wood for the second "Chat with the Chief" on Tuesday, October 6, from 5:00-6:30 PM at the Masonic Lodge (218 N. Sterling St) in Streator, Illinois.

This informal gathering allows residents to meet with Chief Wood, ask questions, share ideas, and learn more about what is happening at the Streator Police Department.

There will be no formal presentation or set agenda. Instead, we want to hear directly from the community and have an open conversation with residents.

We hope you'll join us! We look forward to seeing you there!

The deadline to submit an application for tornado relief and recovery assistance has been extended through December 31, 2026.

Those who were impacted by the June 11 tornado who continue to have unmet financial needs are encouraged to pick up an application at Streator City Hall. Completed applications may be submitted for possible consideration through the Starved Rock Country Community Foundation's Funder's Forum.

Applicants should be prepared to provide invoices or estimates from contractors that include pricing for the assistance being requested. Applicants will work with St. Vincent de Paul case managers, who will help coordinate the application and case review process.

If you or someone you know is still working through recovery from the June 11 tornado, we encourage you to pick up an application at City Hall.

Today, we remember the lives forever changed by the events of September 11, 2001. On this 25th anniversary, the Streator Police Department honors the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives, the survivors, the families who continue to carry their loss, and the first responders who ran towards danger to help those in need.

On this National Day of Service and Remembrance, we also recognize the power of service. First responders, military members, volunteers, and everyday Americans continue to strengthen our communities through acts of courage, compassion, and selflessness.

Today, we take time to recognize National Su***de Prevention Day and remind everyone in our community that no one has to face difficult times alone. Life can become overwhelming, and sometimes people may feel like there is nothing to look forward to. Help is always available.

If you or someone you know is struggling, take the time to listen, check in, and offer support. Just taking time to listen can make a big difference. Call or text 988 to connect with the Su***de and Crisis Lifeline. You don’t have to be in immediate danger to reach out. Let’s look out for one another and remind those close to us that they matter.

This week, the Streator Police Department recognizes two members celebrating service anniversaries!

Officer Brian Wahl celebrates 22 years with the Streator Police Department. Brian graduated from the University of Illinois Police Training Academy in Champaign and has served our community as both a Patrol Officer and School Resource Officer. He takes great pride in serving the community where he grew up. He also carries on a proud family tradition as a third-generation law enforcement officer.

Sergeant Aaron Smith celebrates 17 years with the Streator Police Department. Throughout his career, Aaron has served as a Patrol Officer and currently serves as both a Sergeant and K9 Handler. Aaron has worked alongside two K9 partners during his career — Fips and his current partner, Hunter. He also holds Taser Instructor certification, allowing him to train and certify members of our department.

Thank you, Brian and Aaron, for everything you do!
